Supporting Independent Investigative Reporting

A few of you have asked if you can donate to this web site to support independent reporting. I very much appreciate the sentiment but here are some alternatives. Please note that a portion of the proceeds of my book “Stonewalled” will support the Brechner Center for Freedom of Information.

One fearless program in particular that I recommend, associated with former network producer Lowell Bergman, is the Investigative Reporting Program at UC Berkeley.

The Investigative Reporting Program is supported almost entirely by private funds. Other worthy watchdog organizations include the Center for Public Integrity, ProPublica, the Project on Government Oversight (POGO), the Government Accountability Project and Public Citizen. (They have terrific web pages, too). The conservative watchdog group JudicialWatch has had much success suing the government under both Bush and Obama to obtain improperly withheld Freedom of Information documents.
