Obamacare’s Biggest Experiment: “Covered California”

Covered California is the largest of the state exchanges or marketplaces set up to sell health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. Now, several insiders are speaking about the agency’s trouble beginnings, a “culture of secrecy” and alleged waste of your tax dollars.

“I really believe that we’ve created a monster—and it’s an unaccountable monster,” one former Covered California senior manager told me.

Another official said, “Somebody must have been smoking something” if they thought the program was going to be able to launch smoothly, considering the challenges.
