From spying on Trump to journalists, look at the government patterns

Many in the media are diving deeply into minutiae in order to discredit any notion that President Trump might have been onto something in March when he fired off a series of tweets claiming President Obama had “tapped” “wires” in Trump Tower just before the election.

According to media reports this week, the FBI did indeed “wiretap” the former head of Trump’s campaign, Paul Manafort, both before and after Trump was elected. If Trump officials — or Trump himself — communicated with Manafort during the wiretaps, they would have been recorded, too.

But we’re missing the bigger story.

If these reports are accurate, it means U.S. intelligence agencies secretly surveilled at least a half dozen Trump associates. And those are just the ones we know about.

Besides Manafort, the officials include former Trump advisers Carter Page and Michael Flynn. Last week, we discovered multiple Trump “transition officials” were “incidentally” captured during government surveillance of a foreign official. We know this because former Obama adviser Susan Rice reportedly admitted “unmasking,” or asking to know the identities of, the officials. Spying on U.S. citizens is considered so sensitive, their names are supposed to be hidden or “masked,” even inside the government, to protect their privacy…. (continued)

  1. Dear Sherryl,

I admire your persistence … I am a former journalist and current lawyer with an abiding interest in 1st Amendment, press access and open government issues. Although I am not yet convinced that our spy agencies were so thoroughly subverted for political ends, if this is true, it dwarfs in significance any alleged “interference” by the Russians. Our CIA has interfered in so many elections around the world — including through assassination — that it is bizarre that our liberal press is so blindly pushing this “bad Russia” narrative, with no any historical or moral context. At minimum, I believe the American people deserve to see the evidence in your case and others — same for the Russian interference and Trump “collusion” claims. So far all we have are conflicting narratives with no explicit factual bases, constructed by the sanitized claims of “experts” and spooks in and out of government who all have economic or political motives to say what they say.

I would happily volunteer my help in your case. It would be helpful to provide the actual IP addresses you found on your computer, and then correlate these to other known hacks.

    Best regards,

    George

    1. Sorry–I guess a should spell your name right! Attkisson. Howeverm any way you spell it–you’re STILL a right-wing, Rethug hack!

      1. Don if you were to refrain from posting when you’ve been drinking, you would be doing everyone a favor. I do hope that you’re able to conquer your drinking problem soon. After abusing the alcohol for all of these years and your many attempts to quit, I am sad to say that sobriety is not looking like a realistic hope for you. Please, surprise me! Your old school mate, Johnny Noon.

  2. Sharyl, you are the true definition of a journalist. Your articles are always unbiased and with extremely honest and in depth investigations . Unfortunately you are the exception. The spying and abuse of power will continue as long as we have a dishonest media that does not hold politicians accountable.
