Weinstein Story Isn’t the First the Media has “Spiked”

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]any people seem shocked by claims from a former New York Times reporter who says the newspaper sat on her 2004 information exposing alleged sexual misconduct by Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein. (The Times told Newsweek they would have only withheld information for good reason.)

The Weinstein question aside, I can tell you that every day, in newsrooms around the country, stories are killed because powerful people know how to get them killed…(Continued)

  1. Dear Sharyl,

In my view, one story that the corporate media is not allowing to be known, is the story by Greg Palast, a story surrounding the Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach’s “Interstate Crosscheck” program, which, investigative reporter Greg Palast uncovered that the program, with the cooperation of 29 red states ( who provided to Kobach their voter registration rolls for processing with the softwaree ) has purged 1.1 million blacks, hispanics, and asians from voter registration rolls, which, when the purged individuals came to vote, no record of their registration was found ( though they did, in fact, register ) they were given provisional ballots, which, in many of the red states, were not counted. Palast asserts ( he claims to have evidence ) that in each of the swing states that decided the election, the purged numbers vastly exceeded the count which Trump won by. Palast asserts that, you can set aside all the talk of voter suppression ( other than Crosscheck ) Russian meddling, machine tampering, etc., et., that but for Interstate Crosscheck, Hillery would have won in the deciding states.

Of course, you might not like Hillary, a lot of people do not like her, but that doesn’t mean the integrity of the voting process being egregiously undermined is okay. Isn’t it your duty, as a journalist, to investigate this ( whether or not Palast, indeed, has hard evidence of his claims? Palast has written for the Guardian UK, and Rolling Stone Magazine. Perhaps you know him.

The rationale Kobach ( Trump colluding) used goes like this, there are duplicate names in more than one state, of a sizable portion of the population, therefore, this is (according to Kobach & and the President) “evidence” of intent to commit vote fraud. So, the program deletes names with the same first and last names.

Now then, the program intentionally doesn’t match middle names, things like Jr., Sr., and SSNs. However, Palast claims to have evidence that they did not do this indiscriminately, the targeted blacks ( black sounding names, like Elijah Jackson ), names with Asian & Hispanic surnames. Palast asserts that 1.1 million names were purged, and ultimately the voters whose names were purged were given provisional ballots, and in many ( if not all ) of the red states, they were not counted. Palast has a video out, it’s cheap and on Amazon, called “The Best Democracy Money Can Buy” which goes into great detail how this was achieved by Kobach. Please investigate this , at http://www.gregpalast.com and let us know if the Palast story is true.

Let’s establish one thing, the rationale to purge these names is false. For example, if you move to another state, do you actually go through the trouble of contacting your previous state’s registrar of voters and instruct them to remove your name from their databases? No, of course you don’t, no one does. If someone dies, do the kin go through the trouble of contacting the registrar and have the deceased name removed from the databases? Who does this? No one! This will inevitably result in quite a number, but actually duplicates. Each state has their own methods of cleaning the rolls, but, Kobach doesn’t want to wait around for that. Duplicate names across states is NOT evidence of intent of voter fraud. The purging of these names (in both states), in my view, is criminal. Why are you not investigating this? Please contact mr. Palast and bring this story to the fore. Thank you.

  4. Stories are killed for all sorts of reasons. Tom DeLonge just came out with an announcement about his company that he is creating to study paranormal phenomena. He had a dude there who admitted that he ran a secret UFO investigation conspiracy within the US government, and said that UFOs are real. Most major media organizations are not covering it. (as well as Sharyl Attkisson)

  5. Dear Sharyl, the fact that you and others still have to bring up what happened to you is disgusting. It should be headline news, BUT we know how things can get buried and how the elites can spin something to make the victim look bad. I truly hope you will one day receive justice. God knows I never will, but I’ve learned to turn what happened to me into a driving force and I will continue driving until I reach MY destination. Keep up the great work.

  6. Sharyl: I have just finished reading your new book, “Smear”. I have known this practice has been going on for quite a while now. I just did not know to what extent. I highly recommend your book to everyone, especially to those who believe most of what they read and hear from the media. The problem as I see it is how do we stop it. I believe the Trump voters have it right. “Drain the Swamp.”

    1. I agree 100% with your comment about Sharyl’s book, “Smear”. I also agree 100% with your Drain The Swamp comment. President Trump unfortunately is just the very tiny beginning of ridding our government, media outlets and even business leaders of unacceptable Swamp Creatures. It took decades to create this mass of corruption. It’ll unfortunately take a while to get rid of it. I can say that I am very, very thankful that our country stood up on November 8, 2016 and said “Enough”.

  7. I just finished your new book, “Smear.” I’m in total shock, I knew there was fake news, but never realized the power the liberal media, Super Pac, etc. has on what is reported. I rarely watch mainstream media, but when I do I notice more and more reporters give their own personal opinion on the story! Thank you for writing this book. I’m sharing it with everyone I know. After discussing a few parts with my 86yr old mom (especially about how John Podesta was told to call Google and stop the “searches” so U.S. citizens couldn’t find info on Hillary’s health) she said, “I’m reading that!”
