Justice Dept. and FBI Personnel Changes Amid Probes

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]here’s been a flurry of high level personnel changes within the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI starting at the beginning of Campaign 2016 and amid multiple probes into Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump-Russia, and intelligence officials’ alleged misbehavior in those investigations.

In the year leading up to the election year, then-FBI Director James Comey twice replaced the heads of Counterintelligence at both the Washington D.C. and New York Field Offices, and named a new head of FBI Counterintelligence.

Today, there are overlapping investigations underway including:

  • Congressional investigations into alleged Russian interference.
  • Congressional investigations into allegedly improper FBI and DOJ surveillance activities.
  • Congressional investigations into anti-Trump “dossier.”
  • Inspector General investigation into FBI and DOJ anti-Trump leaks.
  • Special Counsel investigation into alleged Trump-Russia collusion.

Here’s a rundown of some key personnel shifts and changes.[hr]

The above chart was updated 2/11/18 to correct the date of O’Callaghan assignment, add additional personnel.

  1. This is a war between Trump and the FBI top echelon. He did not start it. The key players seemed totally committed to Hillary and it is not clear if Trump could have avoided this war. Probably not. The question is whether the FBI has read Machiavelli correctly. “Do not strike a Prince unless you kill him.” Can they win ?

  2. Ms. Attkisson, you missed John P. Carlin (AAG for National Security). He announce that he was leaving DOJ on Sept 26, 2016. If you look at the FISA court’s 99 page opinion of 4/26/17, you will see that Sept 26, 2016 is also the day the government intel community made – – aheemm – – “revised” Submissions to the court. Enclosed with the Submissions from the intel community was an “explanatory memorandum” from DOJ. Only DOJ had “explanatory” material.

  3. Resignations and reassignments are nowhere near sufficient for their crimes. Treason and sedition demand execution.

    We’re gonna need more rope.

  4. It seems to me that for all the education these people have, they missed the 8th grade constitution class. Alternative to that is they suffer from Hubris, which means they missed the Greek Classics and Shakespeare. Either way they certainly are not the best and brightest.

  5. In your chart, in Jan 2017, Sally Yates is titled as “Acting DOJ IG.” I think you mean “AG.” She was acting attorney general at the time, not inspector general.

  6. I was hoping someone would create a timeline. Thanks, Sharyl!

I think there’s a typo at bottom on Feb. 2018 line: David Laurman (Laufman).

I find the resignation of Currie Gunn, Rachel Brand’s assistant, less than coincidental in the theme of Brand’s moving onto better opportunities with less than 9 months at her coveted position.

  7. You are doing great work. You are one of few investigative journalists left.

I noticed you described the scope of the DOJ IG Report as “anti-Trump leaks”. I hope the scope is broader than that and includes DOJ/FBI mishandling of the Clinton e-mail investigation and the Carter Page FISA warrant scandal, including the failure of the FBI to advise the Congressional “Gang of Eight” for nine months of the opening of the counterintelligence investigation in July 2016.

    1. Obama is at the center, and that should not be forgotten or left out of continuing revelations. “POTUS wants to know everything we’re doing” — Strzok; Mary Jacoby, wife of Fusion-GPS’s Glenn Simpson, visited the White House the very day (April 19, 2016) after Fusion-GPS was cut off from further access to raw intelligence, circumventing the FISA process (NSA Director Mike Rogers shut down that runaround — and he is the hero who refused to accept the “17 intelligence agencies” report to Obama that Russia did in fact “hack” the 2016 presidential election, and that “report” was really authored by just 3 top intel officials: John Brennan CIA, James Clapper DNI, and James Comey FBI. The Insane Left’s (Obama’s Left) continuing denial of the truth is entirely based on their claim, and apparent hypnotically deluded belief, that the Steele Dossier is true (just one proof of their insanity, i.e. obsessed denial of reality, by the way).

  8. THANK YOU Sharyl. I have updated my score card! With ALL the corruption and indiviuals involved you need a road map & a GPS device to connect all the players aka criminals. Keep up the superb work!.

  9. Dear Ms. Attkisson:
I am a former Special Attorney with the Organized Crime and Racketeering Section of the U.S. Justice Department, the Organized Crime Unit Chief and the Police Misconduct Unit Chief in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, and a Special Organized Crime Prosecutor in Central Pennsylvania. I practice law in Philadelphia. Over my 47 year professional life, I have conducted grand jury investigations, electronic surveillance and undercover operations and have worked closely with the FBI, DEA, ATF, ICE, as well as other federal, state and local police agencies.
Please accept my gratitude and profound respect for the vital and courageous work that you are doing in exposing the corruption and abuse of power at the highest levels of government. I can assure you that I am not alone among my former law enforcement colleagues in expressing admiration for your efforts.
    Best regards, George Parry

  10. Is there any way Sharyl’s FBI/DOJ computer attack case could be forwarded to the Office of the Inspector General Michael Horowitz? These are CRIMES being committed by our government.
