It may sound outlandish but there are serious questions as to whether the U.S. government experimented to "weaponize" common ticks.
According to CNN, Congress is asking the Pentagon Inspector General to investigate whether the Defense Department has experimented with insects, including ticks, as biological weapons.
If true, what were the parameters of the program? Who ordered it? Was there any accidental release anywhere or at any time of any of the diseased ticks?Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.)
CNN reports the idea to investigate is the brainstorm of Rep. Chris Smith, a Republican from New Jersey. The measure reportedly calls for the Inspector General to look into whether government tick experiments were conducted in the 50s, 60s and 70s. There have long been writings about and rumors of such experimentation.
