Epstein’s death stoked distrust in government

Trust in the federal government is seriously lacking. And the government conspiracy theories surrounding the death of convicted sex abuser Jeffrey Epstein only further eroded that trust.

That’s according to a recent Scott Rasmussen poll and column. Just 19% of those surveyed say they have confidence in the federal government, with 47% saying they don’t trust it at all.

Rasmussen says the results to not reflect a purely partisan trend.

This is not the result of the Obama Administration or the Trump Administration. It has been building for a very long time. In fact, it’s been 47 years since a majority of voters have trusted the government most of the time.

Scott Rasmussen on the tension between voters and the federal government.

In times of deep distrust, voters are looking for candidates to bring trust back between the government and the people, says Rasmussen. But Epstein’s death had the opposite result. He was said to have held potential blackmail material about important political figures as he awaited trial on underage sex trafficking charges.

Just 36% of American adults believe the official story that Epstein committed suicide. A ScottRasmussen.com national survey found that 30% think he was murdered while 34% are not sure. As if that skepticism isn’t enough, 9% think it’s very likely Epstein faked his death, escaped prison, and is alive somewhere.

  1. Well conspiracy circulate because of the behavior of those in power and there inability to tell the truth!
Even when the truth would be easier! So it continues!

    1. Bizarrely, given all the anomalies surrouniding it, it almost seems more conspiratorial to believe the front page story on Epstein’s death than it does the more nefarious versions.

  2. Thomas Joseph Hussman

Empires have a history of falling when the act of Bribing Public Officials becomes an accepted cost of doing business. The public and the government has shown a degree of acceptance to the equation of Pedophilia plus Bribery. Solzhenitsyn said at Harvard – ‘The West will decline because it lacks civic courage.’ Well…?

  3. Once a government loses credibility, everything it does (Venezuela, Syria, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Ecuador, Iraq, Libya, Panama, are threats, 9/11, secret surveillance, public health enforcement, you name it.) becomes suspect and fuel for conspiracy theories where both justifiable skepticism and lunacy call home.

  4. I MY SELF THINK THESE NUMBERS ARE COOKED .I WOULD SAY AT LEAST 75% HAVE NO TRUST IN THIS GOV .FOR MY SELF . I HAVE HAD NONE FOR THE LAST 28 YR . I SEEN BACK THEN WHAT YOU SEE TO DAY. BOTTOM TO TOP CORRUPTION . SEE HOW I I KNOW FACE BOOK TIME LINE eadygeorgem A LOT THERE BUT IT ALL BACKS UP WHAT I JEST SAID . AND THE MERCURY BEING DUMPED IN THE FL PANHANDLE IN THE SPRING OF 1996 BY THE FEDS . IS THE WORSE PART . AND NOW THAT OVER 135,500 DIED FROM CANCER IN 2018 . AND THAT THIS IS WHY . SO YES GLAD TO YOU ALL CATCHEING UP.!!!!!!!!!

  5. Who in hell had trust in our Govt BEFORE his death?? After Benghazi? After 3 yrs of a Govt engineered Russia hoax & Spygate? After seeing the 2-Tier Justice system in action? After criminals getting greenlight for their crimes? LOL. Please! No one trusts the Govt and we sure as hell don’t believe that the “official story” we’re fed is the truth anymore. And the Govt has no one to blame but themselves. Corruption does not lead to trust.

  6. I so distrust our government that I am not convinced Epstein is dead.

WTC, building seven, opened my eyes. Eventually, I’m embarrassed to admit.

They’ve even gone to the trouble of red flagging their lies for Us. They call them, “conspiracy theories.”

Miles squared, times eight inches = The Biggest Lie of All

  7. And the latest revelation that the video covering the outside of Epstein’s cell is “unusable” certainly won’t increase the trust, nor should it.

  8. The starting point in addressing this issue is to cease using the term conspiracy theory.
The media have already fallen into line, terming the death of Epstein a “suicide”. But there is no evidence of suicide. There is no proof that he was not murdered.
Only that he is dead (unless we listen to the anti-semites who think that Mossad have Epstein in their custody).
Note that as soon as he was dead, the FBI publicly raided his island. Why not before?
Note that Mueller was head of the FBI whilst Epstein was running his honeytraps.
Note that he also ran Whitey Bulger, who was also recently murdered in prison.
Note that the narrative has changed – the Dem AG in Florida had a State case against Epstein, and refused to take it up. So the Sheriff went to the Feds, who had no jurisdiction, but who stepped in (advised that Epstein was a protected man).
All these years later, it turns out that it was a Federal failure. Not a Dem in sight. Clinton? – Who?
Bill Clinton’s online photos in the company of Epstein, like his cigar-sucking photos, have been excised from the web.
Clinton flew 27 times with Epstein.
Trump was tarred. Maxwell is now the lead criminal. Classic re-direct.
The “victims” demanded that Epstein be held in jail, so most of America knew that he was a dead man.
The “victims” now want their pound of flesh, and Epstein can’t sing for his supper. But this is America, and Someone Must Pay! Her, Her and Her.
    Juxtaposed with…
An insider downloads Dem files onto a drive, and the Russians are blamed, by the DNC, FBI and…Mueller.
Clinton’s server is owned by the Chinese…crickets.
The Chinese have been funding the Dems, and a few GOPers too…crickets.
The Clintons sold off 20% of US Uranium deposits to Putin, after Bill got $500k for a speech in, er, Moscow. Crickets.
How about that attempted setup of Julian Assange with a fake dating agency, whilst trying to hang around his neck attempted pedophilia with a fictitious Canadian child, in the Bahamas, and some UN “credibility” added to the stew? That takes serious co-ordination and government activity to set up.
    Endless.
No – we don’t trust the Feds. But I do trust My President.
