Assange is transferred out of solitary confinement in UK prison

Dated: January 31, 2020 by Sharyl Attkisson 13 Comments

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has been transferred out of solitary confinement in a British prison, where he has been waiting for his extradition trial for over nine months. That's according to canberratimes.com.au.

Assange's contact and access to visitors was severely limited in what many saw as a punitive action, according to the story. If he is extradited to the United States, he will face charges of spying and conspiracy. Some consider it a landmark test of the protection of journalists' sources. Assange critics claim he is not a journalist.

Assange's legal team and other inmates reportedly led the effort to get him transferred out of solitary confinement, claiming that his treatment was unfair and unjust.

Assange's legal team claims that he is still being denied meaningful access to his attorneys.

Iโ€™ve been watching this since 2016. A pivotal time where the rose-colored glasses came off and things were not as they seemed. Wikileaks is one of the bravest organization to expose the utter corruption of America. I pray for Julian Assange. Maybe even he didnโ€™t know what evil really looked like until he exposed the Clintons.

I am so glad that he is out of that part. I think he should be treated much better than he is being treated. So many powerful people are against this man, it shows that they are afraid of what he did and what he might have to say in the future. I am thankful for what he exposed and I am hoping that soon he will be free and have a fair trial.

I am counting on this mistreated, feared, courageous journalist regaining his health and freedom

Call me crazy, but sounds like a setup to silence him forever. Now out of solitary, people can get to him easier, Epstein style

Don't be surprised if he meets the same fate as Jeffrey Epstein. That's what happens when you try to expose the truth about powerful people. They have connections in the deepest and darkest places.

Whatโ€™s the difference between Assange being a โ€œwhistleblowerโ€ and the supposed โ€œwhistleblowerโ€ who is being ridiculously protected for saying something about Trump? What a double standard. This is absolute BS!

Julian did great service to the wider community by exposing corruption in high places. He shouldn't be in jail at all.

Thanks for continuing to report on the tragic injustice being done to Julian and to press freedom.
