Roundup weedkiller safety update

(Watch the video report by clicking the link below)

An update to our Full Measure reporting on the weedkiller Roundup.

Thousands of people say a chemical called glyphosate found in Roundup gave them cancer.

But there’s disagreement among experts.

The Environmental Protection Agency recently re-approved Roundup as safe, saying glyphosate is *not* dangerous when used as directed.

Even so, Kellogg’s recently announced it will phase out using Roundup on wheat and oats, due to safety questions.

Last year, studies showed several popular cereals contained traces of glyphosate.

Lawsuits about Roundup are currently on hold — as settlement talks are reportedly moving forward.

  1. In certain progressive European countries, chemicals that are suspected of being carcinogens or merely being unsafe for human health are banned until PROVEN safe. The U. S. needs to follow suit and adopt a “guilty until proven innocent” approach to widespread use of controversial chemicals. Roundup definitely falls in that category.

    1. It’s always about money one way or the other. I sprayed Roundup for 7 years – 10 years later after starting spraying I got NHL. I have no history of cancer in my family and was a healthy man. Al of a sudden BAM at the age of 42 NHL. You sometimes in life you just can sense something strange had happened. Sure enough – Monsanto has blood on there hands. When a company starts faking reearch in order to cover-up for me it’s a no brainier. Will everyone who uses it get NHL? Of course not. But every human being has certain markers to combat something like this glsophate but some people dont . I look at it like this under the right conditions certain people get cancer from using this crap. Don’t be surprised some where down the line though our food supply may be comprimised because of a company’s greed

  2. You guys are not the ones suffering from this the people that have lost body parts and are at end of life are the ones that have this problem my life earnings was greatly reduced after I had surgery to remove my cancer I will leave a wife and and austictic grandson to deal with this world while the corporate world waits for their holding parchute

I’m sitting in the hospital radiology department waiting for another ct scan. I have pain and have been unable to cope with the constant expenses related to maintaining my health as a direct result of my Lymphoma. I’ve lost a marriage and everything I own due to the misinformation and extreme hardships I’ve had to deal with from my cancer and related surgeries. I feel like they’re hoping people die so the settlements can be wrongful dearh and less liabilty !…….

    2. I hate to say this. If you have (NHlymphoma the ojly reason to remove it to get a biopsy which will help your oncologist make a bettet call of what combination of meds along with chemo have the bedt possibility of getting it into remission
      Theres no cure

  3. I have worked in the horticultural and landscaping business for 30 years with several different companies. Neither myself, or any one i know has gotten cancer from Roundup. Of course we have all been trained and certified in pesticide use which the average homeowner isn’t required by law to do. So if they want to disregard the label and go spray their driveway cracks for weeds in their flip flops every month, then go eat a sandwich without even washing their hands ….they shouldn’t be surprised if something weird happens. Just sayin…

  4. Glyphosate by itself is not a carcinogen, but it is used in combination with other chemicals in Roundup and other herbicides and that combination has been found to be carcinogenic. The research used by the EPA was conducted by industry insiders. Ind pendent research shows .that the EPA approved levls can pose a threat, especially in children who eat far more of the snack foods and cereals that have been doused with Roundup prior to harvesting. This may have something to do with so many countries fanning Roundup and other glyphosate based herbicides.

    1. This isn’t our EPA this is Mr. Dumps EPA so we all know what that means, we can’t trust them. Plus Bayer is based in Germany, it’s a German company and Germany has had Round-Up banned! Yet they say it’s so safe!!! Right after Bayer got Round Up they started working on creating a new herbicide because they knew shit was about to hit the fan. Greed is horrible. Monsanto poisoned the world for profit ?

    2. Exactly. I was the chief investigator for a large industrial law firm. I investigated numerous claims, usually death claims, where different chemicals together under different circumstances where often proven to be carcinogens

  5. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that round up causes cancer.
My landlord used it against my will and it killed my healthy do
g w a horrific case of lymphoma. Who will give me my dog back or compensate me for both of our pain and suffering???
They’re a bunch of motherfucking money grubbing liars. I hope their loved ones get cancer.

  6. I have no problem with efforts to stop using glyphosate product in farming, but the use of Round up in Urban landscape is vital. It is a primary tool in controlling weeds and unwanted plant material from invading planned landscaping in all our city street medians and park landscaping. It’s the best tool we have and as long you follow the label instructions there is no risk to the applicator or anyone else. Stop the politicizing of this non issue.

  7. Watch a documentary called “What’s with Wheat.” It costs too much money to extract glyphosate from food. It’s all about money. Gross National Product means higher dollar value. Poor health and disease means big profits for the pharmaceutical industry and medicine. Guess who gets a big cut of the profits at tax time?

  8. Been around RoundUp Herbicide all my life since the 80s. Seven rounds of chemo and a stem cell transplant fighting Follicular Lymphoma Cancer. At 50 years old I’m disabled for life. Lost everything trying to survive terminal cancer. Hate Monsanto and Bayer

  9. “I think pesticides lower the cancer rate.” The scientist who made this comment was really making a broader statement about man made chemicals. He did not doubt that carcinogenic materials existed. But he knew that the man made chemicals such as pesticides and herbicides were typically used in such low concentrations that they posed little threat and offered great rewards. He understood that humans were constantly bombarded by many natural and man made chemicals and that the cells of the human body were reacting to these compounds and creating ways to deal with them. I met him many years ago at UC Berkeley. He was a professor in chemistry at the university. One of the many accomplishments of this scientist was the creation of a test that would identify chemical substances which damaged genes.

One of the first tests his students would encounter was a lab test. Each student was asked to bring in one of their favorite nutritional foods. The more natural the better. The food items were put to the test. All of the foods contained natural chemicals which showed positive for genetic damage. As mentioned earlier, the human body is quite good at learning and protecting the cells from damage caused by natural or man made chemicals. But it is not perfect. As we age it is harder to repair the damage.

Roundup was commercially released in 1973. I am saddened when I hear of someone who is battling cancer. Discovery of Non Hodgkins lymphoma cancer has been leveling off since 1995. But statistics can be tricky. Because from 1975 to 1995 it had been increasing. We still have a lot to learn and making big decisions on whether or not a particular chemical is responsible for causing a particular disease is very complicated.

  10. I unloaded alfalfa hay in the 70s and 80s that where sprayed with all kinds of herbicides. I breathed in the residue all those years. Then in the 90s And the
2000s I became a hay broker and as I would inspect stacks by the fields that
Airplane would spray the fields and the spray would hit me in the neck and arms
I never thought much about it till I got non Hoskins follicular lymphoma, had a large
Tumor on my spline witch was very painful the doctor gave me a pain patch to put on my arm.for pain bingo that’s when I realized the roundup and herbicide was getting into my body I sprayed in the years before of roundup on my 3 acres
Just think about it roundup kills weeds and therefore kills animals dogs cats and humans o by the way I lost to dogs from lymphoma during those years.
