With the help of scientists, we can envision the way a virus-filled cough could move through the space around us.

  1. If this story was meant to be “scientific” then:

    1. Why didn’t the FAU (Florida Atlantic University) engineers use a real person’s cough rather than a dummy with a hole in its mouth?

    2. Did the engineers measure the pressure created by a normal person’s cough and use the same air pressure when expelling the water and glycerin fog mixture through the dummy’s mouth?

    3. Was the fog mixture used comparable by volume and weight to an average person’s cough droplets?

None of that was disclosed nor if FAU was paid by NBC to create the video.

This demonstration was “Mister Wizard” amateurish at best and far from the application of rigorous experimentation using physical science. It calls into question whether FAU developed this dubious simulation of how far a person’s cough travels through the air to serve a political agenda.

Here is a website that demonstrates how to make “fog” for special effects fun.
