POLL: Americans watching more news but keeping same low opinion of it

Local and international news consumption has doubled since December 2019. Attention to national news has gone up by 13 points since that time. But American views of the news remain largely negative.

That’s according to a recent Gallup survey.

Forty-eight percent (48%) of Americans say they have an unfavorable view of the media.

Thirty-four percent (34%) of Americans say they hold a very or somewhat favorable view of the media.

A greater percentage of Democrats and independents than Republicans are likely to hold a favorable view of the media, says Gallup.

Other topics where Americans’ opinions widely diverge based on their party affiliation include:

  • their source of news
  • seriousness of coronavirus
  • whether the media is giving too much attention to coronavirus
  • how well President Trump is handling the U.S. response to coronavirus.

  1. Grown to hate the media, nothing balanced. Mainly egoistical attention seeking lying distortional people and organizations Nothing to trust.. However there are OANN, Newsmax and AM talk that’s far more honest.

  2. MSM is not news, it is infotainment produced to either tell the viewer what they already think, or to try to dictate to the viewer what to think.
I gave up cable, quite some time ago, but even NPR has gotten in on the act, going full on CNN with their panel-o-pundits.
It was so sad we stopped contributing to NPR.
