Fifty-eight percent (58%) of those polled say the U.S. is already in a recession or depression. That's according to a recent Gallup poll.
Thirty-nine percent (39%) say the economy is just "slowing down."

Gallup says that Americans' perceptions of the economy are largely influenced by their party affiliation.
Most Republicans, 61%, report the economy is merely slowing down, rather than in a recession or depression.
Most Democrats, 77%, say they believe the country is already in a recession or depression, as do 61% of independents.
