POLL: Most Americans say U.S. is in recession or depression

Fifty-eight percent (58%) of those polled say the U.S. is already in a recession or depression. That’s according to a recent Gallup poll.

Thirty-nine percent (39%) say the economy is just “slowing down.”

The new findings update a recent Gallup poll that already reflected Americans’ increasing expectations that the U.S. economy would enter a recession. The new results reveal that most now say the U.S. is already in a recession or depression.

Gallup says that Americans’ perceptions of the economy are largely influenced by their party affiliation.

Most Republicans, 61%, report the economy is merely slowing down, rather than in a recession or depression.

Most Democrats, 77%, say they believe the country is already in a recession or depression, as do 61% of independents.

  1. Not in a classic sense. Recovery should be rapid and few small business owners will give up. Clientele will generally retain loyalty. I have already donated my $1,200 to my favorite cafe.
