U.S. Judge Jed S. Rakoff, a Bill Clinton appointee, allowed Sarah Palin’s defamation lawsuit against the New York Times to proceed, saying that a jury should decide whether editorial page editor James Bennet acted with “actual malice” in writing that Palin was responsible for “political incitement” that led to the mass shooting in Tuscon, Arizona, in January 2011.
The Times published the editorial in the wake of a June 2017 mass shooting by a deranged leftist who targeted Republican members of Congress at their baseball practice. The Tuscon shooter was mentally disturbed; accusations against Palin had long since been disproved.

Sarah Palin took a beating from the media during the Tea Party movement. I think she was smart by airing her reality tv show “Sarah Palin’s Alaska”. It revealed just how regular and imperfect the family life is of an individual with an extraordinary career.

Thanks to e-mail and social media, everyone is a publisher now. It’s time everyone — conservative or liberal — is held to the standard of “reckless disregard for the truth.” That would shut down the viral dispersion of bogus quotes and altered photos, which so often can be disproved simply by visiting a fact-checking Web site. Punishments for those who disregard the truth would eliminate much toxicity and confusion from public dialog. And the same must go for the multitude of professional pundits and commentators. It’s their job to be factual and accurate before layering on their spin and opinion. No mercy for them! Let the courts deliver a lesson for the country, thereby choking the harmful untruthful and entirely with-malice communications that pollute public discourse.
Sarah Palin, was dealt a losing hand when she was chosen as John McCains, running mate. His campaign was less that stellar, and it seemed like he didn’t even try. I think America was ready for something new and Obama was just that. McCain was not only a bad candidate, he dragged Sarah down with him.
