A former U.S. Congressman was charged in July with “stuffing” the ballot boxes in 2014, 2015 and 2016 primary elections.
According to prosecutors, Michael “Ozzie” Myers (D-Penn.) conspired with and bribed the former Judge of Elections for the 39th Ward, 36th Division, Domenick J. Demuro, who oversaw all federal and local elections in his area.
Demuro pleaded guilty.
Here’s how prosecutors say the operation worked. (These allegations are accusations and are not considered proven in a court of law.)
Myers acted as a “consultant” for federal, state and local political candidates, including some running for judgeships.
Myers used a portion of his “consulting fees” to bribe Demuro and others “in return for tampering with election results.”
The payments to Demuro ranged from $300 to $5,000 per election.
Demuro would “illegally add votes for certain candidates of their mutual party [Democrats] in primary elections.”
Demuro would “add fraudulent votes on the voting machine â also known as ‘ringing up’ votes” for Myersâ clients and preferred candidates.”
At Myersâ direction, Demuro would add these fraudulent votes to the totals during Election Day, and then would later falsely certify that the voting machine results were accurate.Â
Myers, now in his 70s, was expelled from Congress in 1980 after reportedly taking a bribe in the infamous FBI Abscam case.

A former U.S. Congressman was charged Tuesday in an indictment unsealed today, with conspiring to violate voting rights by fraudulently stuffing the ballot boxes for specific candidates in the 2014, 2015, and 2016 primary elections, bribery of an election official, falsification of records, voting more than once in federal elections, and obstruction of justice.
Michael âOzzieâ Myers, 77, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is charged with conspiring with and bribing the former Judge of Elections for the 39th Ward, 36th Division, Domenick J. Demuro. Demuro, who pleaded guilty previously in federal court in Philadelphia, was responsible for overseeing the entire election process and all voter activities of his division in accord with federal and state election laws.
âFree and fair elections are the hallmark of our system of government,â said Acting Assistant Attorney General Brian C. Rabbitt of the Justice Departmentâs Criminal Division. âThe Department of Justice has zero tolerance for corruption of the electoral process, and we will spare no effort in investigating and prosecuting those who would seek an unfair advantage at the polls by bribing state and local officials responsible for ensuring the fairness of our elections.â
âVoting is the cornerstone of our democracy. If only one vote has been illegally rung up or fraudulently stuffed into a ballot box, the integrity of that entire election is undermined,â said U.S. Attorney William M. McSwain of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. âVotes are not things to be purchased and democracy is not for sale. If you are a political consultant, election official, or work with the polling places in any way, I urge you to do your job honestly and faithfully. That is what the public deserves, it is what democracy demands, and it is what my office will enforce.â
âTransparent and fair elections are integral to the proper functioning of our democracy,â said Special Agent in Charge Michael J. Driscoll of the FBIâs Philadelphia Division. âThose who seek to corrupt the vote threaten the publicâs trust in the process and must be brought to justice. The FBI is determined to protect the integrity of our electoral system.â
âThese charges, announced today by the Justice Department, clearly illustrate allegations of absolute disregard for the sanctity of our electoral system,â said Captain Leo D. Hannon Jr., Director of the Special Investigations Division of the Pennsylvania State Police. âAs disheartening as this conduct may be for the voting public in Philadelphia and elsewhere, the citizens we serve should be reassured by the fearless and tireless work of the attorneys, agents, and troopers tasked with the continuation of this active investigation. Particularly in the current atmosphere of impending elections, the Pennsylvania State Police prioritize investigations into allegations of voter fraud and public corruption.â
Myers is charged with bribing Demuro to illegally add votes for certain candidates of their mutual party in primary elections. Some of these candidates were individuals running for judicial office whose campaigns had hired Myers, and others were candidates for various federal, state, and local elective offices whom Myers favored for a variety of reasons. According to the indictment, Myers would solicit payments from his clients in the form of cash or checks as âconsulting fees,â and then use portions of these funds to pay Demuro and others in return for tampering with election results.
After receiving payments ranging from between $300 to $5,000 per election from the consultant, the court papers allege Demuro would add fraudulent votes on the voting machine â also known as âringing upâ votes â for Myersâ clients and preferred candidates, thereby diluting the value of ballots cast by actual voters. At Myersâ direction, Demuro would add these fraudulent votes to the totals during Election Day, and then would later falsely certify that the voting machine results were accurate. Myers is also accused of directing Demuro to lie about the circumstances of the bribes and the ballot-stuffing scheme to investigators.
This case is being investigated by the FBI with assistance from the Pennsylvania State Police. It is being prosecuted by Richard C. Pilger, Director of the Elections Crimes Branch of the Criminal Divisionâs Public Integrity Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric L. Gibson.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

“Keep an open mind but don’t let your brains fall
out” is good advice for our time. It is becoming
increasingly apparent that we’ve let our brains spill
out all over the place in failing to question, with
sound reasoning, certain ideas being applied to
contemporary social problems by liberal emoters.
One such idea in need of closer examination is
Christian in origin, but liberals have seized it as a
means for disarming anyone who decries alternative
lifestyles (immoral behaviors): “Judge not lest ye be
judged,” or, as liberals say, “Don’t be judgmental.”
This idea has been extremely destructive to America.
Would that liberals direct us more reasonably
to “Condemn not, lest ye be condemned” — since
judging is indispensable to social progress and
equates with reasoning while condemning is more the
final and irrevocable consequence of judging and
bereft of forgiveness — then we could possibly halt
the current moral decline.
Would Jesus of the New Testament admonish us not to
think? Wasn’t his command to the adulteress, “Go and
sin no more,” both a judgment and a warning? If so,
why would he deny us the same means for keeping good
social order? Without societal judgments (sanctions)
on adultery or murder or robbery, there would be no
good social order. And, yet, conservatives are
admonished by liberals not to judge whenever
confronted by immorality.
All laws and social mores for sustaining good civil
society were derived from, and are sustained by, the
constant judging of our own and others’ experiences
(beliefs, actions, situations), both private and
public. In fact, there would be no civilization
without judging everything and everyone, and all the
time. This is the means we humans have used to get a
step or two away from savagery.
Can you think of a more evil and efficacious means
for destroying civil society than instructing humans
not to judge one another? How many times have
liberal talk-show hosts and their liberal guests
exclaimed “Don’t be judgmental!” when anyone
challenged deviant social behavior? On its surface
the idea appears noble and constructive, but it
really means “Don’t think,” as liberals would have us
use it. And when applied literally and broadly to
social issues the effects are devastating, as our
society’s rapid deterioration evinces.
We’re now witnessing a great social upheaval caused
by over three decades of liberals spewing that weak-
minded drivel. Aren’t children killing children in
the streets, using and dealing drugs, joining gangs
to terrorize law-abiding citizens, engaging in
deviant sexuality and dying from STDs, having babies
out of wedlock or aborting their wombed babies? And
isn’t our society crumbling all around us because the
idea “Don’t be judgmental” began to spread in earnest
during the Sixties, and now is firmly entrenched in
our social consciousness; especially in our public
schools where “values-free education” is the standard?
America is in rapid decline on all cultural fronts
because of liberals’ decades-long liberalism. Would
that liberals had understood the benefits of
