Durham to leave as US Attorney; still no report on FBI misconduct

In what has to be one of the oddest if not most mysterious recent tenures under the Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney John Durham has announced he’s leaving his U.S. Attorney post, effective midnight Sunday.

Update: Some news reports say he will stay on in his special counsel role investigating FBI misconduct.

After serving as the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut for more than three years, and as a federal prosecutor in Connecticut for more than 38 years, John H. Durham today announced his resignation from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, effective at midnight on February 28.

Department of Justice announcement, February 26

Durham’s resignation notice didn’t devote even a single sentence to explaining what happened to the investigation he was tasked to lead, examining FBI misconduct in the 2016 election and beyond.

Then-Attorney General William Barr assigned Durham to spearhead the probe after an Obama-appointed Inspector General found widespread misconduct within the ranks of the Justice Department in the government spying on the Trump campaign, and improper wiretapping a former Trump campaign associate, Carter Page.

Before the investigation somehow got sidelines, Barr had said it was clear from the evidence that the FBI had, indeed, improperly spied on a political campaign and committed egregious offenses.

At one point, Barr promised a report of some kind would be issued a year ago, last Spring. Then, as the election drew closer, the timeline was extended into Summer. Finally, as if it never existed in the first place, all discussion of the investigation simply disappeared.

Barr, too, resigned without explaining what happened to one of the most important investigations in recent times. He originally said that no matter what the investigation found, there would be a public report because the subject matter was of such great public interest. And he promised the report would be out by Spring of 2020 or Summer at the latest.

The only known action to date to come from the probe is the charging of former FBI attorney Kevin Clinesmith for doctoring a court document to obtain an improper wiretap on Carter Page.

Clinesmith was ultimately charged with what many analysts said amounted to less than a slap on the wrist considering the magnitude of the crime committed. Then, he avoided prison, getting sentenced to probation.

Many Republicans pinned hopes on both Barr and Durham, insisting they would expose and punish corruption within the Department of Justice and FBI before misconduct could occur again in the 2020 election.

The full Department of Justice announcement about Durham’s resignation is below.

After serving as the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut for more than three years, and as a federal prosecutor in Connecticut for more than 38 years, John H. Durham today announced his resignation from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, effective at midnight on February 28.

“My career has been as fulfilling as I could ever have imagined when I graduated from law school way back in 1975,” said U.S. Attorney Durham.  “Much of that fulfillment has come from all the people with whom I’ve been blessed to share this workplace, and in our partner law enforcement agencies.  My love and respect for this Office and the vitally important work done here have never diminished.  It has been a tremendous honor to serve as U.S. Attorney, and as a career prosecutor before that, and I will sorely miss it.”

Prior to his appointment as an interim U.S. Attorney in November 2017 and subsequently as the presidentially appointed U.S. Attorney in February 2018, Mr. Durham served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in various positions in the District of Connecticut for 35 years, prosecuting complex organized crime, violent crime, public corruption and financial fraud matters.  From 1978 to 1982, he served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office, and from 1977 to 1978, he served as a Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Leonard C Boyle will serve as Acting U.S. Attorney upon Mr. Durham’s departure.

“The Office will be in the extraordinarily capable hands of Len and our superb supervisory team who, together, guarantee that the proper administration of justice will continue uninterrupted in our District.”

Mr. Boyle has served as First Assistant U.S. Attorney since June 2018, when he returned to the U.S. Attorney’s Office after serving as Deputy Chief State’s Attorney in Connecticut for approximately nine years.  He previously served in the U.S. Attorney’s Office from 1986 to 1998, and from 1999 to 2004.

Mr. Boyle is the 53rd U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, an office that was established in 1789.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office is charged with enforcing federal criminal laws in Connecticut and representing the federal government in civil litigation.  The Office is composed of approximately 68 Assistant U.S. Attorneys and approximately 54 staff members at offices in New Haven, Hartford and Bridgeport.

  1. This is no surprise democRATs always circle the wagons regardless of their status how many of the left have been prosecuted. The whole upper echelon of the FBI n CIA should be in prison

  2. I can only hope, and I’m gettin lean on that, he can accomplish more if he’s free of Federal shackles. Or he’s been hillaryiously threatened by the dastardly obamasoros.

    1. As far as I’m concerned, Obama turned all agencies into radical cells. Terms like dem or rep have no meaning. Barr and Durham might as well be members of the CPUSA.

  3. Problem with reporting the effectiveness of the Covid vaccines by the media.

I wonder if you can address on your show a lingering issue I (I’m sure many other) have with the analysis that is being reported.

The Pfizer chart below is very interesting. It is the one that Pfizer used to get FDA approval. https://www.fda.gov/media/144245/download Page 30 Figure #2
It shows that the 2 arms of the study diverge dramatically at 14 days after one shot. Considering 5-to-7-day incubation period that means that the vaccine was significantly effective starting just a few days after the initial shot.

An important observation that I think is not being addressed in this report any by many in the media is that most if not all the effectiveness reports are starting from day one. This should not be the case as the person could have been infected prior to getting a shot or even during the 4-to-5-day period after the shot but prior to the antibody build up. If you subtract the first 12 days the effectiveness is almost 99%.
Can you please address this.? I think it is important in realizing that we may have a vaccine that is almost 99% effective.

    Here is the full report:

  4. One of the most important strategies authoritarian governments use is to convince those who oppose them that resistance is futile.

    1. Republicans are to blame. We have the power to be in control and insure justice is done. We just don’t seem to take things seriously enough, we just don’t seem to be able to unite (too many RINO’s) and we seem to think criticizing all the things that go wrong is enough. Donald J Trump has shown us how to fight and win, so lets go; the 2021 election is a year and half away and we can take the House and Senate if we try!!!!! Lets do it……

  5. So disappointed with this person. So discouraged from his words and actions. Devastating to know nothing is being done to people who broke the law and worked within the government to remove an elected President of the US, one of the best Presisents this nation has ever had, through illegal means. What kind of law enforcement is that? A real failure.

  6. These people do not care about crime, optics or justice. Just greed and power of the politically (connected) appointed provides a barrier of protection that makes them untouchable. Hell, even #MeToo is silent on Clinton. We are all watching this and understand nothing will be done. No outrage, backlash or riots. It’s never going to change…

  7. Two tier justice is alive and well in the bannana republic of the United States of America, thanks to corrupt leaders in the Democrat party.

  8. What did we expect? You can’t convince me these people are simply walking away. They must be being threatened or paid off. I think threatened judging by the behavior of most corrupt President ever. Aren’t we lucky?

  9. Sharyl and Full Measure Team,

Boys teasing that pretty girl on the
    playground is “misconduct” while
    “C R I M I N A L I T Y” ought to have
been used in your title—or, as the
    late Rush Limbaugh repeatedly
    exclaimed :

    “Words mean things !”

That fact is why this scribbler has
    blamed conservatives for having
lost the CULTURE Wars !; e.g., my
    repeated request that they
[[ Beck & Boys et al. ]] STOP using
    LEFTISM’s propaganda terms (( I’ve
a couple dozen examples )), such
    as :

    They use “Abortion” instead of the more telling : B A B Y C I D E / Babyciders / Baby Slaughterhouse..

They use “White Supremacy” instead of answering with : WHITES’ Preservancy / Preservationism.

    “They use “Rich” rather than the far more accurate : P R O D U C T I V E.

    They use “Poor“ instead of : L E S S Productive.

    They use Leftism’s term “Racism” rather than what’s driving it : G E N E T I C I S M.

    They IGNORANTLY use . . .

  10. Does this actually mean to say that there will be no report issued? Our Republican representatives need to get this report out and quickly! Please stay on top of this!

  11. The fact that there is no mention of any Durham report in this resignation letter unfortunately tells you all you need to know. I’m so embarrassed I ever believed there was EVER going to be any report or spoke of it to anyone with any certainty. “Just wait till the Durham report comes out!” I remember saying over and over!!! Ullllllggyeeecccch! What kind of hopium could I have been smoking???

Ladies and gentlemen, they effectively pulled another Jim Comey bait & switch on us. Stall, stall, stall, running the clock out, passing the ball back and forth until quietly bowing out & exiting stage left without even taking one last shot at the basket! It’s another big nothing burger…nothing to EVER be seen here…I don’t know how anyone in that Justice Dept or SCOTUS can sleep at night!!?
    HAVE YOU NO CONSCIENCE???
    Thanks for ABSOLUTELY nothing!
What is that saying? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me?

How any of us could believe anything ANYone in the FBI CIA or DOJ said, promised, vowed, etc. after what Jim Comey did letting Hillary off with a school girl scolding after ALL THE SELF DEALING CRIMES SHE OPENLY COMMITTED & then BRAZENLY “BLEACH BIT DESTROYED” EVIDENCE OF (did we really have to actually see all the lousy quid pro quo Clinton Foundation emails she sent leveraging her position as Secretary of State for donations to her private slush fund? to know she did it? Did she not act guilty enough by what was reported she did to HIDE them?)?! How can we keep falling for this SILLY charade of contrition??? What were we THINKING????
    Damned if I know!

We the People were just expecting people to do their jobs like we do OUR jobs. Do what they promised US, or swore an oath to do…but how GULLIBLE CAN WE BE??? The private sector is the only place where words or promises or oaths are kept. There’s no honor among thieves!

I’m sure all Durham has been doing for the last few years is cavorting all over Europe COVERING UP whatever evidence he found, in US or abroad, on Barr’s orders. That special way they have of mentioning the report was only delayed RIGHT BEFORE THE ELECTION because of ALL the EXTRA evidence they were finding…! Oh and that exceptional announcement that DURHAM was being made a “special counsel” when Barr quietly resigned in December so the investigation “COULD CONTINUE DESPITE BIDEN BECOMING PRESIDENT?” Wasn’t that CLEVER??? Sleight of the hand??? How did that nickel get behind your ear? WHO was the clever one to think of saying THAT?!! Hook, line and SINKER, we all fell once again JUST WHEN WE WERE LOSING FAITH THERE WAS ANY stinking DURHAM REPORT (once again)! After so much disappointment, didn’t you dare yourself to believe him once again after you heard that?? Makes me so sick!

There really should be punishment for this! If you can’t close an investigation on one election in 4 years before the NEXT election, what HAVEN’T you got?
    A FREE REPUBLIC!!!
I suppose the facts are all right there in front of us.
We just don’t want to SEE IT to believe it!!!

They lull us into trusting we are finally going to see Justice with a new investigator (from outside DC) on the job because THAT’S ALL WE WANT….ONE system of Justice that WE ALL live under…

Color me DISGUSTED!! Barr and Durham are both weak, spineless, crooked, parasitic freeloading scum of the earth eunuchs with no balls. It’s their personal faults THIS is where we are. They wanted the top jobs, salaries, boys club camaraderie but they can’t handle the loathsome responsibilities or unpopular chores that come with it. Their job is to hold their noses and indict their best friend’s wife’s boss who they met at the West Wing Holiday party last year (whichever acquaintance it is who is guilty) & STOP this CORRUPTION OF JUSTICE.
Take one for the team for Chrissakes !
    But they failed.
Miserably. And it’s ALL THEIR FAULT the USA is a BANANA republic now.

    ARE THEY NEVER TRUMPERS?
    ARE THEY RINOs?
Are they Deep State? Are they/their families being threatened by Antifa?
Bribed by Soros? Or are they just Benedict Arnold Beltway Bureaucrats?
    Criminals! ALL OF THEM!!!
How they have the nerve to resign their positions pretending their careers are stellar after their traitorous final acts is nothing short of asphyxiating to us.

    What they aren’t? Patriots.

  12. Mr. Durham owes the United States people an explanation, and an apology for interfering in the 2020 elections by withholding information, and a total refunds of all the small fortune he was paid to perform a ‘simple’ Lawyer task.

  13. The Democrats (used loosely) have made the modern CIA and FBI into their private Gestapo….and yes, the entire leadership of both agencies should have been summarily fired by Trump…..but Trump was totally incapable of seeing the bigger picture, or appointing good people (Paula White, Amorosa, successive clowns at the Dept Of Defense, and others)…..Always agreed with Trump’s polices, but please Donald…just go away
