CENSORED: Dr. Seuss, Theodore Geisel

Theodore Geisel, author

One of the most famous authors of all time, Theodore Geisel, has become the victim of today’s Cancel Culture.

Though the prevailing themes of his children’s books surround acceptance of differences and diversity, the company that owns the publishing rights to his books recently announced it had decided to cancel publication of several titles calling some of the imagery in them inappropriate and saying they “portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong,”

This was followed by the titles being pulled down from various sites, even as resells on Ebay.

Now, his work is being branded by some as white supremacist or containing “racist imagery.” Geisel is not here to mount a defense of his work, intentions, and themes. He passed away in 1991 at age 87.

The banned books are:

“And to think that I saw it on Mulberry Street”

“If I ran the zoo”

“McElligot’s pool”

“On beyond zebra”

“Scrambled eggs super”

“The cat’s quizzer”

A study published in 2019 in “Research on Diversity in Youth Literature” by two activists who imply children are routinely “taught” racism through children’s literature, such as Dr. Seuss books, concluded that 43 out of the 45 characters of color in Dr. Seuss books have “characteristics aligning with the definition of Orientalism,” and two “African” characters are anti-Black.

The authors also claim that since most of Dr. Seuss’s human characters are white, the books perpetuate white supremacy.

Maybe an aspiring children’s book author should write something with the theme of Green Eggs and Ham, but cover Marxism Communism and Socialism and of course change the end to sticking with individual freedom and responsibility; choosing Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness. I am sick of the left politicizing our children and atempting to indoctrinate them. However, I guess that would make me a hypocrite of sorts,

    1. Hitler, Mussolini, and Mao saw the great potential in building and maintaining a totalitarian regime through education and brainwashing of youth.

  2. The vortex into which our country is being sucked is spinning faster. America’s Cultural Revolution is well underway. There are no guarantees the violence that marked Mao’s or Hitler’s will not be felt here. How frightening.

    1. I bet. The past is getting erased. Right before our very eyes. God help us if they find out something horrible that Beethoven did. Everything’s up for review. Just like in China’s revolution. The implication of what’s going on shakes me to the core. I mean, what’s the difference between this censorship and gender identity discrimination? Wasn’t that the whole idea behind that couple who refused to bake the cake for the homosexual wedding? That they were penalized for that discrimination? I don’t understand why that kind of “censorship” is illegal. The whole thing is confusing to me! Does anybody think that the government might step in and stop this kind of thing? Amazon’s banning books that contradict the narrative about gender dysphoria. Shouldn’t this be illegal?

      1. It’s immoral and flat-out wrong in an open society like ours, but it is not illegal. Electronic book burning is a real threat with Amazon controlling how so many books are published and sold. Be afraid. Be very afraid. The Tech Giants are acting as a modern-day Savonarola — the bonfire of the vanities has been set alight.

And yes, way too many parallels with Mao’s Cultural Revolution.

  3. George Orwell’s 1984 should be banned. He meant it as a warning, but I think it’s being used as a play book.
