Austin police name suspect in multiple shooting: former police detective charged with sexual assault of a child

Stephen Broderick

Austin police say they’re looking for 41-year old Stephen Broderick after the murder of three people.

Broderick is a former Travis County Sheriff’s detective, according to police.

The U.S. Marshals Service arrested him on June 6 for alleged sexual assault of a child. He was placed on administrative leave without pay.

Medics have pronounced three people dead at the scene of a shooting in Northwest Austin, Austin-Travis County EMS said Sunday.  Police said the shooting stemmed from a domestic situation, and it sparked a manhunt that remains underway.

Although authorities say the three victims are minorities, there is no indication the murders were a hate crime. Officials say they involved a “domestic” situation.
