At a time when racist and hateful comments and actions are being directed against those accused of racist and hateful comments, entertainer Tyler Perry had a different take at the Academy Awards:
“My mother taught me to refuse hate. She taught me to refuse blanket judgment, and in this time, and with all of the Internet and social media and algorithms and everything that wants us to think a certain way, the 24-hour news cycle, it is my hope that all of us, we teach our kids and I want to remember, just refuse hate. Don’t hate anybody. I refuse to hate someone because they are Mexican or because they are Black or white or LGBTQ. I refuse to hate someone because they are a police officer. I refuse to hate someone because they are Asian.”
“I would hope that we would refuse hate and I want to take this Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and dedicate it to anyone who wants to stand in the middle, no matter what’s around the wall. Stand in the middle ’cause that’s where healing happens. That’s where conversation happens. That’s where change happens. It happens in the middle. So anyone who wants to meet me in the middle, to refuse hate, to refuse blanket judgment, and to help lift someone’s feet off the ground, this one is for you too. God bless you and thank you Academy. I appreciate it. Thank you.”
I agree with Tyler Perry. I learned this principle in kindergarten.
The idea that a celebrity needs to speak out on such an obvious subject shows how far we have separated ourselves from the morals and ethics that once formed the values of our society. Having said that, I must add that I do not know anybody personally who doesn’t agree with what he said. Maybe that’s my lucky bubble.
Well, that was a nice change from the usual lecturing we get from Hollywood elites.

Unfortunately, Tyler is speaking from the oppressed point of view. If he had added “refuse to hate Gab users” or “refuse to hate Trump voters”, as well as the other examples he used, I would believe him more. It’s a noble goal.

Well said…..and I’ll take it, given the toxic rhetoric coming from that part of American culture. However, I’m not sure I’m buying it, either. The Democrats have completely redefined all the traditional definitions all honest, law-abiding, accountable Americans have lived by successfully for decades. So, at face value…this was a great speech. It just depends what HE means by “refuse hate”. 99% of the problems we have in American society comes down to a complete, and concerted refusal of personal accountability, due to the co-dependent, self-entitled, professional-victim mentality (i.e. Floyd, Wright, Brown) The people who feel they’re entitled to not have to respect the laws that define America. And, when they’re held accountable for that…..THAT’s where “hate” comes from. They HATE personal accountability, and anyone that enforces, or represents, personal accountability. When I start seeing people like Tyler Perry giving short, to-the-point speeches about that, then I’ll start giving them some credit, and respect. It starts there….we’re a nation of laws, first and foremost.

Thank you, Tyler. Keep spreading the love most of us were taught…keep truth telling. I skipped watching the awards as I am so tired of the totally biased far left comments most entertainers make on behalf of mainstream media messaging. People need to wake up and see what is happening to our freedoms. We are purposely being pitted against one another. You are Loved.
I wish our Politicians and Other People with big Platforms had this same feeling, but I suspect they were not Raised with these same Morals and Values, so so sad!
It was the right message for the group he was speaking to but did any of those extreme haters actually hear him?
Doubt it.
Good for him for standing up. Honestly I think the “powers” that be want our Nation to go to war so they can swoop in and turn it inside out. My bubble doesn’t include racism or hate for anyone. We are all getting along just fine. If everyone keeps their heads on, the rioters go home because no one wants what they are offering maybe we will win the next election cycle by a landslide and the DC Rats will pack up and move to Russia or China and be happy there.
We need more folks like this amazing man. It took unbelievable courage to speak out — especially in front of this particular audience. I have so much respect for him. I pray that God will continue to bless and prosper this brave man. ❤️
