Amish Covid: ‘No hospitalization, isolation or vaccines = herd immunity’

When it comes to actions taken to address the Covid-19 threat, hindsight is still very much underway. For your consideration: a story and outcome you probably aren’t hearing much about anywhere else. It takes place in the heart of Amish country.

Lancaster County, Pennsylvania: thousands of families lead lives largely separate from modern America.

The Amish are a Christian group that emphasizes the virtuous over the superficial. They don’t usually drive, use electricity, or have TVs. And during the Covid-19 outbreak, they became subjects in a massive social and medical experiment.

Sharyl: So, it’s safe to say there was a whole different approach here in this community when coronavirus broke out than many other places?

Calvin Lapp: Absolutely.

Calvin Lapp is Amish Mennonite.

Lapp: There’s three things the Amish don’t like. And that’s government— they won’t get involved in the government, they don’t like the public education system— they won’t send their children to education, and they also don’t like the health system. They rip us off. Those are three things that we feel like we’re fighting against all the time. Well, those three things are all part of what Covid is.

After a short shutdown last year, the Amish chose a unique path that led to Covid-19 tearing through at warp speed. It began with an important religious holiday in May.

Lapp: When they take communion, they dump their wine into a cup and they take turns to drink out of that cup. So, you go the whole way down the line, and everybody drinks out of that cup, if one person has coronavirus, the rest of church is going to get coronavirus. The first time they went back to church, everybody got coronavirus.

Lapp says they weren’t denying coronavirus, they were facing it head on.

Lapp: It’s a worse thing to quit working than dying. Working is more important than dying. But to shut down and say that we can’t go to church, we can’t get together with family, we can’t see our old people in the hospital, we got to quit working? It’s going completely against everything that we believe. You’re changing our culture completely to try to act like they wanted us to act the last year, and we’re not going to do it.

Steve Nolt is a scholar on Amish and Mennonite culture, and Mennonite himself. He’s studying Amish news publications to analyze community-wide trends.

Sharyl: So, are you saying, as of about May of 2020, things kind of went back to normal in the Amish community?

Steve Nolt: For the most part, yeah, by the middle of May, it’s sort of like back to a typical behavior again.

That also meant avoiding hospitals.

Nolt: I know of some cases in which Amish people refused to go to the hospital, even when they were very sick because if they went there, they wouldn’t be able to have visitors. And it was more important to be sick, even very sick at home and have the ability to have some people around you than to go to the hospital and be isolated.

Then, last March, remarkable news. The Lancaster County Amish were reported to be the first community to achieve “herd immunity,” meaning a large part of a population had been infected with Covid-19 and became immune.

Some outsiders are skeptical, and solid proof is hard to come by.

Nolt: Even those who believed that they had Covid tended not to get tested. Their approach tended to be, “I’m sick. I know I’m sick. I don’t have to have someone else telling me I’m sick.” Or a concern that if they got a positive test, they would then be asked to really dramatically limit what they were doing in a way that might be uncomfortable for them. So, we don’t have that testing number.

Lapp: We didn’t want the numbers to go up, because then they would shut things more. What’s the advantage of getting a test?

One thing’s clear: there’s no evidence of any more deaths among the Amish than in places that shut down tight— some claim there were fewer here. That’s without masking, staying at home, or another important measure.

Sharyl: Did most of the community, at least the adults, get the Covid-19 vaccine?

Nolt: Again, we don’t have data on that, but I think it’s pretty clear that in percentage terms, relatively few did.

Lapp: Oh, we’re glad all the English people got their Covid vaccines. That’s great. Because now we don’t have to wear a mask, we can do what we want. So good for you. Thank you. We appreciate it. Us? No, we’re not getting vaccines. Of course not. We all got the Covid, so why would you get a vaccine?

By staying open, the Amish here have one tangible 2020 accomplishment few others can claim.

Lapp: We have this joke: when everybody else started walking, we started running. We made more money in the last year than we ever did. It was our best year ever.

Did the Amish really find a magic formula? They say yes. And they don’t care who doubts it.

Lapp: Yeah, all the Amish know we got herd immunity. Of course we got herd immunity! The whole church gets coronavirus. We know we got coronavirus. We think we’re smarter than everybody. We shouldn’t be bragging, but we think we did the right thing.

Sharyl (on-camera): Nolt, the scholar, is publishing a paper on the Amish social response to government mandates and Covid-19.

  1. Our family often visited the Amish community just north of Kansas City and noticed how modest they were in their clothing and social behavior free of nudity, fornication, infidelity and homosexuality.

Sometimes, a likely answer to the spread of deadly diseases can’t be found in science but in a 7th century text of an Islamic hadith: “Lewdness never appears among a people to such an extent that they commit it openly, but plagues and diseases that were never known among the predecessors will spread among them.” – Sunan Ibn Majah

Despite only quarter of the population fully vaccinated in 37 Muslim countries where same sex marriages are banned, the COVID-19 deaths in 30 same sex marriage countries are almost six times (6x) higher.

Yes, there is a cost humans pay for their behavior that’s evident in the high risk of deaths among unvaccinated in the USA but then there is this moral dimension of the pandemic that the scientific community and the media keep ignoring – and perhaps it’s the reason why COVID-19 is not going to go away any time soon.

    1. Hmm be careful using correlations
If you look at the data people who watched Ghostbusters 1986 version in the past two years had a high death in the past two years. Those who watched the 2016 version had an extremely low death rate over the same time period.

I watched the 1986 version on Halloween so I must have higher probability I will die.

  2. I work with the Amish community every day in Lancaster. When my co-worker asked one of our Amish customers “Are you afraid of Covid?”, his answer was, “No, we don’t have TVs”. Perfect answer!!

  3. I believe there is a misunderstanding
    of what herd immunity means.

It only means the number of infections
    is NOT increasing.

Imagine a community of 10,000 people:

If there was one infection today and
an uptrend to two infections a month later,,
there would be no herd immunity.
But there would be very few infections,
and that would be very good news.

If there were 200 infections today
and a downtrend to 190 infections
    one month later,,
    that would be herd immunity,
    but not such good news.

    My experiences with Amish people
in Ohio, although about 20 years ago,
    was meeting a healthy,
    muscular group of men
    and women who get
    much more exercise,
    natural foods and fresh air
    than the average American.

    They social distance from others
    as a way of life.

I would not jump to the
    conclusion that the Amish have
    herd immunity
    (but I hope they do).

    I would speculate
    that they have
    better than average
    immune systems,
    and much less contact
with the rest of the world.
They are not exactly jet setters.

    1. Agree with you and the data supports what you’re saying. Covid is bad for the weak, obese, sick and elderly – those with weak immune systems. Many don’t need to be vaxed. it has a 99.7% survival rate. It’s a very bad flu. it’s life. The Amish understand this.

    2. I shop in an Amish community monthly. They are hardly social distancing. They don’t wear masks and they are walking, talking, and shopping with the English (what they call non-Amish). I drive 45 minutes each way to shop their stores and community because they are normal. Not out riding bikes or mowing lawns in masks..or wearing garden gloves at the store. They are just normal people living their best lives, like it’s 2018.

      1. Yes……I live near the Amish and they don’t give a s#$t about social distancing……watch the kids actually playing outside on a nice summer day.

  4. there is no delat variant its basic covid 19 in fact weaker than full covid 19 its only the flu virus genetically mofified fror transmissability so its abit more intense for a shorter time average worst se is 7 days ethramizin antibiotic is really effective 2 days one a day is enough during the 2 day lay down period after that u have antibodies for life Amish have this anyone who had any level of covid has the natural immunity all that happens now is covid infection hitchy throat (covid sets up command post in throat and reinfects from cells there in to blood and if antibodies are present then its 3 days max a head cold comes on in first hour

  5. The same applies to Waldorf schools, which tend not to vaccinate. There was a major measles outbreak in a Waldorf school in Germany, I think it was. No one died. All those kids now share herd immunity. I believe if Rudolf Steiner (founder of the Waldorf movement) were alive today, he would say — you immunise in your way; we immunise in our way.

Measles has been shown to be protective against a variety of other illnesses. It’s very rarely fatal if properly treated, and the anthroposophical (Steiner) doctors are experts at treating and managing it. Many people find extremely positive outcomes from measles — parents saying things like, my child is sleeping properly now for the first time ever.

Natural immunity is always going to be superior to artificial, vaccinated immunity. The Amish have a population growth rate way above the American average; just you wait, one day, the Amish will take over the whole of America.

  6. That Nobel Laureate, virologist Luc Montagnier, refuses to accept today’s vaccines we can be certain his fear is not of CoV-2. He explains his fear. Vaccinating en mass in the midst of a pandemic will always create variants.

No one can credibly suggest Dr. Montagnier is anti-vaxx.

  7. My takeaway is that there were few if any deaths, BS-19 was easily treatable at home and basically what the majority of the world is scared s*#tless about is basically flu. Had a feeling the Amish were just fine.

      1. There isn’t a way to know with the info that is currently public but one interesting datapoint: two studies so far have indicated there is no overall increase in deaths in the Amish community that didn’t practice closures or public health measures vs. the places that shut down and quadruple vaccinated. Food for though to be sure.

  8. Interesting report. All that’s missing is the size of their congregation, and how many died from Covid; if any. Natural immunity will work for a period of time and allows the body to develop new defenses when a changed covid comes along; think delta variant.

    1. Actually, several studies showed that natural immunity provided greater protection against the delta variant.
Here’s a possible explanation of why:
Nick Karl, a Pfizer biochemist, told the undercover operative: “When somebody is naturally immune – like they got COVID – they probably have… more antibodies against the virus because what the vaccine is… that protein is just on the outside… It’s just one antibody against one specific part of the virus. When you actually get the virus, you’ll start producing antibodies against multiple pieces of virus, not only the outside portion but the inside portion, the actual virus, so your antibodies are probably better at that point than the vaccination.”

    2. Incorrect, sir. I believe I got the Alpha variant of C()VlD at the end of 2019, but I then got the Beta variant of C()VlD at the end of 2020; and I got tested to prove so, to boot. However, I did not get the experimental “vaccine” when it became available, and I, maskless & unvaxxed, have been around SEVERAL people who had/have the Delta variant, and my immunity from, at least, the Beta variant has kept me from contracting even the slightest symptom. However, ironically, I know people who also had the Alpha & Beta variants, THEN got vaxxed, and NOW have the Delta variant. Where’s their assured immunity??

While this is my personal experience, I have contact with hundreds of people in our network of friends, and they ALL share exact or similar stories. So, while I agree that it would have been nice to know the size of the Amish congregation & community, as well as the number AND demographics of those who did die, they’re natural immunity will protect them from the Delta, Epsilon, etc. variants. Unlike the fraudulent efficacy of the experimental “vaccine” that isn’t hardly doing ANYthing in regards to protection as they touted it would.

Quit drinking the Kool-Aid. Herd Immunity ALWAYS beats unreliable, unfully tested, untried “vaccines,” especially those that skipped typical testing stages that would’ve saved THOUSANDS of lives already lost to the “vaccine.”

      1. There are reports coming out now from the UK that show the shot is actually decreasing the body’s immune response capabilities. This may explain why so many vaxxed people are getting covid.

    3. well, it appears Phil is a believer in the government handouts, where is the flu or common cold? I see the Amish all the time, no masks, sturdy lot, eat homegrown food, no junk, and asking or inquiring did anyone die, nope! Watch the rest of America the overweight, obese woman smoking a cig, puts on a mask, and goes shopping now tell me who should we follow? Remember the virus is 99.7% survival, better than all the rest put together.

      1. They didn’t get sick with the Delta variant, they say. Those who got the original Covid are not very susceptible to Delta or variants so far.

    4. As I reported: No data because they don’t test for Covid. But they say they had some covid deaths, just fewer than places that locked down tight. They say they were untouched by Delta (“nobody got sick”) and that lines up with data that shows people who got natural infection with the original Covid are by and large immune to Delta and other variants.

    5. The jabs that are available do not give you actual immunity to COVID. They only contain protein spikes. No actual COVID DNA. All it takes is a minor variation to the protein spike and you have no immunity to the variant. Hence the need for life long booster shots. If you get COVID your body fights off the actual virus and your immunity is full and will last for years.

  9. Thanks Sharyl. The media are already frantically shushing and denying, instead of being curious.
And thanks to the Amish community for having the courage of their convictions.

  10. Hi Sharyl,
I read your article on Amish Covid with great interest The interview with Mr Lapp was informative and made clear to me that the Amish view the pandemic in more realistic terms than many of our scientists.
The discussion on herd immunity was so relevant and needs to be recognized as valid by our “ leaders”.
I appreciated Mr. Nolt’s analysis as well.
I admire your work as a journalist, when so many others will not expose or even investigate topics such as this
Continue your efforts to inform us in an impartial, knowledgeable way.
    Sincerely,
    Regina Beach

  11. Nuremberg Trials Now

Back in 2006-2007 Dan Olmstead did an analysis of the Amish who were not vaccinated and found virtually no autism in that community (i.e. no mmr, no thimerosal, no aluminum, no glyphosphates). Not a surprise.
The vaccine schedule and the toxic ingredients have caused massive damage.
Fast forward to the Covid scamdemic.
Vaccine mandates for untested gene therapy that in the 1990’s was not safe and not sufficiently improved to this date. 30 years of study have shown this technology to be inadequate.
Oh, about Dan Olmsted’s death (murder) in January 2017 after meeting with President-elect Trump on the vaccine issue and the murder of more than 100 holistic practitioners who questioned the VAXXX safety and overall safety….. Never Mind!
The present vaccine mandates are a raw violation of the Constitution (even the organic constitution of 1871), a gross violation of the Nuremberg Code and basic human rights.
Arrests, prosecutions and executions coming to a neighborhood near you.

    1. Could be lots of things other than vaccines that contribute to Autism (eg ultrasounds or just about any new technology that the Amish don’t use).
Ps Obviously injecting people with poisons is going to cause problems. Just as drinking eating or breathing poisons will.
Also I would have a read of the contagious myth (not vouching for the authors) for anyone who still believes covid is real.

      1. Re: regarding other things that contribute to autism; you could be correct but since scientific studies and the government’s own court admissions unequivocally link autism to various childhood vaccinations for a number of biological reasons, it makes sense to believe that’s a big part of what’s at play.

        1. Could you share more details on this part? “government’s own court admissions unequivocally link autism to various childhood vaccinations for a number of biological reasons”? I have a daughter who I think became vaccine injured as a baby.

  12. The Amish are spread out from the south of Lancaster County to the north where I live. It’s hard to imagine they have total herd immunity. One thing is for sure, they are unafraid and never mask. I have a deep respect.

  13. Very interesting, it is too bad we didn’t get the numbers for how the older people did in this society. With Biden ruling by decree to force the vax out it make me wonder if his family is getting a “kick back” from big pharma?

  14. Sharyl when you next visit Lancaster PA, listen to how the name of the city is pronounced. In PA it’s LANC aster, not Lan cast er, as it is in every other Lancaster in the US. I was born there so take it as gospel. Bought and loved your recent book about your experience with the overwhelming left leaning in media. Thank you for standing up for ethical journalism.

    1. Please write to Sean Hannity and tell him to stop mispronouncing Sharyl’s last name. He keeps putting an “n” in the middle of it. I’ve e-mailed him several times about it to no avail. I even resorted to calling him “Hanratty” hoping he would develop some sensitivity. LOL

    1. I did. They could not track how many died of Covid because they didn’t test. They believe they had some additional covid deaths but fewer than most other places and they were then largely done with Covid (didn’t draw out). The coroner’s figures showed no inordinate spikes in overall deaths in the area. They treated themselves by staying home when they were sick and getting over it; not isolating.

      1. I wonder how their diet and lifestyle affected their immune system. I also wonder how the ones who had low oxygen levels with covid were treated st home

        1. Very few Amish are obese. They don’t drink or smoke. They spend lots of time outdoors and get lots of exercise. Their risk of dying from COVID compared to the general public was very low.

      2. Yes…I am english and operate exactly as they have…they are right on and the fake shot does nothing but global control of which I totally support Amish and Mennonites in their choices…I am grateful to have lived there for 1.5yrs. from WY and loved the people…support them… and their ways as are truly Community and God based.

        1. How did you live with them? Asking for a 60 year old friend and his wife who are tired of this abusive pharma owned culture – er um cult.

    1. Odd that a long swab up the nose to test for a Coronavirus, is later treated with vaccines in the body for Covid with ARR Efficiency rates of 1·3% for the AstraZeneca–Oxford, 1·2% for the Moderna–NIH, 1·2% for the J&J, 0·93% for the Gamaleya, and 0·84% for the Pfizer–BioNTech vaccines according to The Lancet and Doctors For Covid Ethics and booster shots now lasting for just 2 months, with Covid being at least 98% efficient in killing you?
Covid Crusher: Mix one heaped teaspoon of Iodine table or sea salt in a mug of warm water, cup a hand and sniff or snort the entire mugful up your nose, spitting out anything which comes down into your mouth. If sore, then you have a virus, so continue morning noon and night, or more often if you want, until the soreness goes away (2-3 minutes) then blow out your nose and flush away, washing your hands afterwards, until when you do my simple cure, you don’t have any soreness at all, when you flush – job done. Also swallow a couple of mouthfuls of salt water and if you have burning in your lungs, salt killing virus and pneumonia there too.
Gargling, using saline solution or tablets is a waste of time, because they deal with Covid in the body and not the virus in the head, where it is at its most vulnerable – how silly such an easy thing to destroy, is left to become the bio-weapon which kills you.
I have been doing this for over 27 years and not one person has died from this simple cure, or been injured from it from those I have been able to pass it on too, myself included – 100% Effective!!.
The Iodine in the salt kills Coronavirus or the Flu, in the nasal passages of the head and flushes out the escutcheon tubes to the ears, the brain stem and the brain bulb, so no long Covid either – dead Coronavirus = no Covid in the body ever and the salt water provides a protection over the surfaces where Coronavirus and the Flu like to breed – pour a bit of solution on a flat surface and see how it dries – what viruses hate, because it murders them, kills them dead.
Irrespective of if you have been vaccinated or not, do my simple, free cure and avoid further booster shots if you can – or better yet, don’t get vaccinated at all – the vaccines kill, one way or another and horribly too, sooner or later and then we get around to those Nanobots and other things in the vaccines (shudder).
      Richard

        1. Well I got clots in my lungs. No one wants to talk about it after one Jab only I know two men who had TIAs don’t think! You should be calling anyone loopy. By the way it was 3 months later I had my problems still taking thinners both men I know are having problems with their eyes after booster. No more for me I mask up and don’t put my self in any big conurbations of people, the world is overpopulated.
