Metropolitan police in the United Kingdom are investigating alleged reports that top government officials held a Christmas party last December during the Covid-19 lockdown in violation of rules that others were forced to follow.
Leaked video footage from ITV News shows Allegra Stratton, who was Prime Minister Boris Johnson's press secretary at the time, being questioned about reports of the party. In the video, government or "Downing Street" officials appear to be "joking" about having held a Christmas party.
Reports allege that the event included party games, food, and drink and went well past the midnight hour. The party allegedly occurred during the time period that "Tier 3" restrictions were in place, which strictly forbade social activities like Christmas parties and lunches.
Downing Street officials have repeatedly insisted that no party took place on December 18, 2020.
