(POLL) Most support Florida ban on teaching ‘sexual orientation’ lessons to young children in school

Despite the firestorm of criticism surrounding Florida’s new parental rights bill, polling shows that a majority of voters, nationwide, support the law.

That’s according toRasmussen Reports, which found that 62% of likely U.S. voters would support a law like Florida’s in their own state, including 45% who “strongly support” the measure.

The Florida bill titled “Parental Rights in Education” states that lessons about sexual orientation are not to be taught in kindergarten through third grade. It also prohibits lessons in other grades unless they are “age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate.”

The bill awaits Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signature and is scheduled to take effect July 1.

There has been a great deal of controversy over the bill from Democrats and gay community members alike, dubbing it the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. However, that characterization misrepresents the bill.

Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.

House Bill 1557 – “Parental Rights in Education”

When it comes to political party: 74% of Republicans, 49% of Democrats, and 66% of non-affiliated voters said they would support a law like Florida’s in their own state.

The survey found 29% said they would oppose a similar law in their own state, including 19% who would “strongly oppose” it.

Fierce critics have called for boycotting Florida over the new law, but most voters reject that idea.

  • Fifty-one percent (51%) oppose boycotting Florida over the law, including 41% who “strongly oppose” a boycott.
  • Thirty-nine percent (39%) support boycotting Florida, including 22% who “strongly support” a boycott.
  • Another 10% are not sure.

Majorities of every racial category – 63% of whites, 61% of black voters and 64% of other minorities – say they would support a law similar to Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill in their own state.

  1. No school should be wasting time corrupting young minds with this. We should not have allowed the public school to teach sex. It opened the flood gates. This is the job of parents. Reading, writing, history, math, physical education, nutrition and practical life skills are what is needed. Get rid of all the distractions and get back to training the basics so kids are prepared for life. This topic does not prepare kids for life. It is unnecessary.
May we turn our hearts and minds back to God in repentance and faith. Our Nation has lost its way.

    1. Parents aren’t always available to some children. Some kids come from broken homes, and the school is the only other positive venue from which these children have to learn.

If a girl gets her first period and hasn’t been educated, she could well end up believing she’s bleeding to death! Get Real!

Comprehensive sex education needs to be a part of all school curriculums, and should be taught at the earliest appropriate level.

One Other Glaring Thing: KNOWING ABOUT SEX IS NOT CORRUPTION!

Human Sexuality is a natural part of who we are as a species! We Are Sexual In Nature! Our very survival as a species depends on sexuality being practiced by a good majority of the population, or our hybrid vigor dwindles to a few select gene pools, and out comes the baby with bad bathwater! (Horrid Pun, I Know, But Relevant!)

So please stop with the fear mongering about sex being taught by professional educators. Aside from parents, they’re probably the Next Best Thing. And not all teaching professionals have an, ahem, “weird sex agenda.”

Most teachers are just that: Teachers. Many with their own children they, themselves, have to teach about human sexuality.

  2. Sane people are against grooming children.

My first sex ed class was in sixth grade, and I think that was too young. (It was the 1960s.)

    1. Sex Ed not appropriate for 6th Grade? Some girls get their first periods before then, and they better have “comprehensive sex educational understanding” of What That Means, Right? Like, “Hey, I can get pregnant!”

Comprehensive sex education starts within the first years in UK and at other European schools, and the United States wonders why we seem so weird when it comes to a basic and comprehensive understanding of our own bodies and their functions, including the highly pleasurable acts relating to sexuality.

If you’re afraid of knowing about sex by 6th grade, lock yourself in a shed and bar the door. Sex is natural and has been a natural part of our collective humanity for aeons.

People Need To Know. Young children are people, and they need to know about their bodies!
