Older, experienced workers now joining ‘The Great Resignation’

The following is an excerpt from Becker’s Hospital Review.

The latest group of workers to quit their jobs are older, tenured employees with decades of experience under their belts, reported Vox April 30.

While earlier in the pandemic, the droves of workers quitting tended to be younger, less experienced and working in the service industry, those joining the Great Resignation now are older and more tenured.

The biggest jump in resignation rate came from employees 40-60 years old between 2021 and 2022.

There was also a 71 percent increase in resignation rate for those with a 15-20 years tenure at a company and a 63 percent increase for those with more than 20 years at a company.

  1. Yep they are most likely fed up with woke corporate policies and younger employees that think work is a place where you play on your phone, network, go to the gym, and watch older people do all the work. Mommy and and Daddy taught them that if they went to an expensive college they wouldn’t have to get their hands dirty. The sad part is you can’t replace tribal elders with village idiots.
Now companies have the woke associates they wanted but they don’t know how to do anything, use reasoning or common sense. America is sinking fast.

Are these resigning or retiring? The referenced article doesn’t discuss the numbers of retirees in 2020 – 2021. I personally know numerous people who retired in 2020 and those who are retiring in 2021. I would be interested to know those numbers or if they are being counted as resignations.

  3. Educated people have made record earnings over the last 15-20 years. My wife and I both retired this past year -both age 60 and have enough savings to last us to age 100 and our kids will still be rich from what is left of our inheritance. I bet 1/2-3/4 of our same age friends have also retired….because they can.

  4. Sharyl, a big fan for SO many years. All the comments are correct. In the end, this is most likely actually just that. We’re all ready to check out, come what may.
