(POLL) American attitudes about guns

The following is an excerpt from Gallup News.

As Americans are reeling from two mass shootings that have occurred within 10 days of each other in the U.S., an intense gun control debate has reignited across the country.

Gallup’s most recent polling about guns was conducted in October 2021 and January 2022.

Both polls found a slight decrease in support for stricter gun laws compared with the prior year’s measures.

Typically, Americans’ support for stricter gun laws has risen in the aftermath of high-profile mass shootings and fallen during periods without such events.

Additionally, changes in the party of the president may also influence preferences for gun laws.

Here are some key takeaways from recent polling:

  • In October 2021, Americans’ support for stricter gun control fell five percentage points from October 2020 to 52%, the lowest since 2014.
  • In January of this year, the percentage of Americans very satisfied with the nation’s laws or policies on guns dropped from 20% saying they were “very satisfied” to 13%. An additional 28% were “somewhat satisfied,” while 19% were “somewhat dissatisfied” and 37% “very dissatisfied.”
  • In October, a steady 44% of Americans said they had a gun in their household, including 31% who said they personally owned a gun.
  • Eighty-eight percent of gun owners cite crime protection as a reason they own a gun, compared with two-thirds giving this reason in 2000 and 2005 surveys.

    1. The Prime Minister of Canada will be responsible for a surge in illegal weapons in the black marketI would bet. . Take away the 2nd Amentdmant and continue with gun free zones, like Im told the school had in TX and the criminals will have guns. .By the way how does a jobless kid earn enough to buy guns, amo andl ia brand new truck? Who showed him how to use the weapons? Why is JB suggesting the school be torn down and rebuilt? Who was in there before and while the shototer was there. Very strange indeed.

  1. Putting controls on inanimate objects when the goal is to CONTROL individual behavior makes NO sense.
Therefore manipulation is the true objective.

  2. Gun Control isn’t the answer. The Bad guy’s will STILL have guns. I WILL NOT BE A ‘VICTIM” IN MY
OWN HOME! WHY WOULD A GOVT. RESTRICT A CITIZENS RIGHT TO PROTECT HIS HOME &
FAMILY? I FEAR THAT FORM OF GOVT….! THE CONSTITUTION GUARANTEES AMERICANS THIS
    FREEDOM…..!

  3. We have a much larger problem in America…..where are the conversations about family, mental health, and morals? This is what we really should be talking about.

Guns are a convenient scapegoat but they aren’t the real problem in America.

  4. Think.
No knee-jerk reactions when one discusses the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Is this the result of the population without a good education?

Reminds me of people that kick a tool because they were not careful. Stuff happens when we ignore real problems where ill individuals take out their frustrations on innocents.

    Take a breath.

  5. As always, a great story topic. Can you expose THE N.Y.P.A. ICE BOOM damage being done to the Entire Lower Great Lakes ecosystem? Just Google “Joe Barrett Ice Boom” for quick overview on Ice Boom Theory. Thx, big fan. JBB

  6. Within the last two years we witnessed a couple of drivers plowing into crowds with weapons on four wheels. What stricter law would prevent a deranged person from doing harm to others? What we have yet to come to terms with has to do with the Psychopath billionaires who decide who lives and who dies. Trickle-down mental illness is what must be examined. When the minions to a Global agenda force ‘their’ will upon the populace while gaslighting the populace with disingenuous pablum re “threats to democracy”, these collaborators (to include a disinformation Media matrix) are cultivating a negative toxic narrative that will drive some folks to the brink. We are still suffering from three years of a draconian lockdown psyop, while our brothers and sisters in Canada and Australia(with no 2nd amendment, mind you) are dealing with full-blown tyranny. And the NWO schedule keeps on moving towards its ultimate goal. We Patriots are the bumps in the road, and we must never concede to the will of dictators.

  7. Why isn’t anybody talking about the scotus decision that the police job isn’t to protect you but to investigate. Leaving you to protect you and your family. Nobody mentions this at all.

  8. The state has no duty to protect the lives and property of citizens. The state has routinely shown disinterest in protecting citizens. The state can’t keep drugs out of jails and schools. Why do we think the state can keep guns out of the hands of criminals? Why do we assume the state wants to try to keep guns out of the hands criminals? Most “gun laws” are aimed at law-abiding citizens and quite literally are ignored by criminals. Such discussions are madness and a reasonable person sees this fact.

  9. Both shooters passed their background checks, one (at least) waited the week necessary to pick up his gun(s).

If Democrats were serious about gun violence they’d be yelling to have the laws we have on the books already, enforced. Including on Hunter Biden, who lied on his federal form when buying a handgun, which he later put in a dumpster near a high school.

More ineffective laws which are also ignored aren’t going to stop anything.

If Democrats cared about kids being killed, they’d worry about a “procedure” that kills more kids each and every month than guns do annually

Almost 50% of legally owned guns are in the hands of conservatives, those who lean conservative and/or Republicans. Liberals/Democrats own about 25% of legal guns. Over 80% of violent crime happens in Democrat controlled areas. And that is even according to the liberal leaning Pew organization

  10. Fact-check: Do ‘more people die from hands, fists, feet, than rifles’?…………PolitiFact’s ruling: Mostly True Viral Facebook post: “More people die from hands, fists, feet, than rifles.”
    Our ruling
A Facebook post claimed that more people were killed by hands, fists and feet in 2020 than by rifles.
FBI data does confirm that statistic. But the data source is limited, and the stat alone doesn’t tell the full story of the role firearms of all kinds play in homicides.
We rate this Mostly True. AND INCLUDES ALL MAKES OF RIFLES ….AR15s, AK47, AK74 SHOTGUNS, SEMI ACTION SHOTGUNS BOLT ACTION RIFLES, SEMI ACTION HUNTING RIFLE’S, MUZZEL LOADED RIFLES, ALL 22 CALIBER RIFLE’S, ALL RIM FIRE RIFLES, ALL MILITARY’ RIFLES M1, M1 CARBINE, WORLD1 AND 2 RIFLE’S… ALL 9MM RIFLE’S, ALL WESTERN ACTION RIFLE’S, ALL RIFLES MADE FROM THE 1800 TO 1900 FROM EUROPE, WE TALK ABOUT MILLIONS AND MILIONS OF RIFLES I DID NOT LIST
Statista researchers pulled data from the FBI’s Crime Data explorer, which does show that of the 17,813 homicides reported in 2020, 662 of them were committed with “personal weapons” — which the site indeed describes as hands, fists, feet, etc. — and 455 homicides were committed with rifles. So strictly going by the numbers, the post’s claim is accurate SO THE RIFLE WHICH THEY ARE TRYING TO BAN KILLS LESS PEOPLE THE HANDS FISTS AND FEET BUTADD THE BASEBALL BATS AND HAMMERS IT VERY LOW PERCENT KILLED BY RIFLE…BAN FEET FISTS AND BASEBALL BATS AND HAMMERS AND SAVE MORE LIVES than people killed by rifles which they want to ban
