Nearly half of US states planning to ban ‘Zuck Bucks’ in upcoming elections

The following is an excerpt from Just the News.

Through the first half of 2022, at least 20 states have enacted legislation to ban the infusion of private funding into elections, according to a report.

Capital Research Center, a Washington, D.C.-based conservative nonprofit think tank, has been keeping tabs on states’ disparate responses to private funding to assist with elections operations – a scenario that gained steam in the 2020 presidential election at the height of the pandemic.

In their ongoing analysis, CRC authors Sarah Lee and Hayden Ludwig have pointed to revelations that came to light after the most recent presidential election, including the tech mogul for whom the trend has been named.

“The chief culprit was Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who poured $350 million into one sleepy nonprofit, the Center for Technology and Civic Life,” Lee and Ludwig wrote. “CTCL then distributed grants to hundreds of county and city elections officials in 47 states and the District of Columbia.”

According to the report, Alabama received a sliver of the pot of CTCL cash, to the tune of $2.45 million.

This spring, the Alabama Legislature passed House Bill 194. The legislation prohibits public officials overseeing elections “from soliciting, accepting or using certain donations from an individual or nongovernmental entity for the purpose of funding certain election-related expenses.”

Some of the country’s more purple swing states received higher CTCL contributions in the 2020 election.

Nearby Georgia, for example, received $45 million. Elsewhere in the U.S., Pennsylvania and Wisconsin received $25 million and $10.1 million, respectively, from the organization.

“Despite CTCL’s claims that the grants were strictly for COVID-19 relief, not partisan advantage, the data show otherwise,” Lee and Ludwig wrote.

  1. Laws intended to fix elections won’t help because those charged with enforcing them are on the same payroll as the mules. We are literally living the repercussions of not having effective and enforced election laws. Institutions that served us well are listing from Soros\Obama shipworms. All attacks on fiat currency aside, it is a matter of months before more than one western nation comes apart at the seams. I seriously doubt the globalist cadre of corprofascists understand what America will look after November. The Netherlands, like Canada, are already slow burning embers, and god knows what will happen as the months grow cold and the English get their bills from British Gas. People in France are angry but they lack demographics that include self reliant populations similar to those in our Federation. I wish this was a conspiracy theory but 100% increases in the cost of a can of peas makes this a very real situation. Buckle up folks…..

  2. Except that the Biden administration is calling on his allies in the bureaucracy to “federalize” the Zuckbuck bans. The new push is to use all Federal buildings….particularly those dependent on welfare…to be turned into Zuckbuck like boxes. Two Election Integrity groups are raising the alarm and have advised Republicans to wake up and stand up. This includes STATE LEGISLATORS to pass laws for this to be illegal. The article is from today’s FEDERALIST from MOLLIE HEMINGWAY!

  3. Let me see if I have this straight. A very rich person gave a lot of money to an organization that used that money to help people vote (funding drop boxes, funding voting education campaigns, etc.). Imagine that! Sounds pretty un-American to me. No one has accused that organization of doing anything illegal. In fact the only problem seems to be (apart from the problem that Biden won) that that very rich person is Mark Zuckerberg who is the embodiment of the partisan evil that is big tech. We simply can’t have that. It’s much better to leave that sort of thing to the Kochs and Mercers and Thiels.
And there is the problem that this organization advertised itself as “nonpartisan” when from the evidence provided it looks like they funneled most of their money to states that Biden had a decent chance of winning.
But I would ask that anyone upset about the idea that some entity would advertise itself as “nonpartisan” when it clearly is not to simply look at the masthead for this newsletter.

    1. I agree that big money skewing elections is unamerican for either side. That would make Sanders and Trump the most american of candidates. They got the least help from fat cats and had a grass roots movement with the highest donor head count, not bucks count. Bernie was robbed twice, Trump once.
Before Sanders and Trump highest donor head count was a 100% predictor of victory.
      Not any more.
