(POLL) Jan. 6 committee hearings have ‘little effect’ on public opinion

A special congressional committee has spent weeks holding televised hearings about the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, but apparently it has had little effect on public opinion.

This is according to a new Rasmussen Reports poll.

The survey found that 34% of likely U.S. voters said the House Select Committee’s hearings have made them ‘more likely’ to vote for Democrats this fall in the congressional midterm elections. However, 30% say the Capitol riot hearings have made them ‘more likely’ to vote for Republicans.

Thirty-two percent (32%) say the hearings have not made much difference in how they plan on voting in November.

According to Nielsen, about 17 million viewers tuned in for last Thursday’s primetime hearing of the House Select Committee.

Twenty-nine percent (29%) of voters say they have watched most of the J6 committee’s hearings, while 21% have watched some of the hearings.

Twenty percent (20%) have not watched very much of the J6 hearings, and 28% have not watched them at all.

Forty-seven percent (47%) of voters believe the Capitol riot represented a threat to American democracy, while 43% don’t think so and another 10% are not sure.

These findings are only slightly changed from January, when 50% said the Capitol riot was a threat to democracy.

  1. I would be interested in the poll numbers on questions 3 and 4 of the survey!

3* Did the January 6 riot at the Capitol represent a threat to American democracy?
4* Did Joe Biden win the 2020 presidential election fairly?

This would provide a better assessment on how the people view the Jan6 committee and Biden’s presidency.

    1. Today’s polls lack the type of specificity that would better inform We the people of the missing contexts.
A “Threat to Democracy” is a much used political meme that is drenched in disengenuous hyperbole–used ad nauseam by hypocritical charlatans in Congress and the Senate. The fact that the MSM so often trumpets this meaningless “threat to democracy’ pablum is yet another indication that authentic journalism is rarely found on TV. The fact that the NY Times has been relegated to a museum for relics also indicates we have left Kansas! Where’s Toto when we need him to pull back the curtain?

    2. Even better. have two questions that go like this. Maybe get a better idea of how many are smart enough to know America was specifically chosen to NOT be a democracy, but a republic.

      1. Did the January 6 riot at the Capital represent a threat to American democracy?
      2. Did the January 6 riot at the Capital represent a threat to American republic?

    3. “threat to American democracy”

I have said American democracy needs to be threatened and eliminated because the Founders created a Constitutional Republic and a Nation of Laws. The Founders viewed democracy as something akin to a “mobocracy”.

The Democrats talk about democracy and eliminating the electoral college, they talk about the seats in Congress apportioned by population. they want Illegal Aliens to be given the vote. I am not sure what they mean by that term, but based on what I have seen so far, I won’t like it. They do not accept elections they do not win. They do not accept Supreme Court decisions that does not suit their agenda.
= Their misuse of the 1887 Electoral Count Act is particularly bothersome. Even more troubling is the inability of the Republicans to articulate and defend it. It was not publicly mentioned until the efforts to change it began with so-called Republican support. It was 130 years old and never been used, yet in the Spring of 2020 editorials for its reform appear in the papers. I say they planned to cheat in the 2020 election, they knew Trump would challenge it and might even invoke the 1887 Electoral Count Act and they could not allow that to happen. So, the Democrats had to cause a riot, blame it on Trump to get the RINOs to seek cover and accept the election.

No, to Biden winning the 2020 election. They began a series of actions in 2015 that continues today and is likely to continue for some time yet. The battle for control of America.

  2. It is important to remember that people who answer polls are not typical working class Americans. These days polls are designed to form public opinion, not reflect it. The fact that the results are this bad is telling.
