The following is an excerpt from The Hill.
Almost 2 million students stopped attending public schools between 2020 and 2021, enrollment data shows.
In a recent poll from Education Next, district-operated schools lost 4 percent of their students during those two years, with those children enrolling in other types of schooling.
In the spring of 2020, 81 percent of schoolchildren in the United States were enrolled in district schools, according to parental response to the poll.
By November of that year, enrollment in district schools had plummeted to 72 percent, according to Education Next numbers.
Last spring, district school enrollment bounced back up to 77 percent and enrollment has hovered at that rate since then, according to the publicationโs most recent poll.
That percentage drop means that almost 2 million students have left a traditional public school for either a charter or private school or to be homeschooled.
Over the past two years, the portion of the countryโs students being homeschooled bumped up from 6 to 7 percent, which represents a doubling from 2016 numbers.

Has private school enrollment gone up that much? Has homeschooling gone up that much?
Are they sick, or worse that much?
Where do 2 million human beings go to?
Away from government oversight.
Many are now hanging out in the streets of Philadelphia, Chicago and Los Angeles.
Many are also hanging out in the streets of New York city
2 million fewer students means approx 75,000 fewer teachers are needed.
At $1000 year teacher union dues each, Randi Weingarten and friends are losing a huge chunk of change. Open the borders, the teachers unions cry. Bring them in! The higher their birth rates the better.
1982 was a bad year for America. SCOTUS mandated free K-12 for all illegals. And the Dept of Education was newly created to distribute federal funds to local school districts, in exchange for federal mandates.
THIS IS PARENTS DOING THERE JOB. LOOKING OUT FOR THERE KIDS .AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS IS NOT THE BEST PLACE FOR YOUR KIDS TO LEARN ANY MORE, THE GOV HAS BEEN BOUGHT. AND TOLD TO TEACH YOUR KIDS A LOT OF CRAP. AND SINCE THE SCHOOLS NEEDS YOUR KIDS TO STAY OPEN . REMOVEING THEM IS THE BEST AND ONLY WAY TO WIN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS . BACK TO THE PUBLIC (WILL ) OF THE PEOPLE
Being a former, "green eggs & gov't cheese", employee, I can attest to these "schools" being nothing more than indoctrination centers. Any parent that allows the gov't to mold their child's impressionable little minds, isn't much of a parent.
I loved going to school every single day in the 1950-60s. Had a perfect attendance record in high school. Everyday was learning something new in a stimulating and engaging environment. How did they do it so wall back then.
We all felt like we were learning together, at our little desks lined up in a rows with our 'sage on the stage" teacher who dressed up and we always called them Mrs, Miss or Mr. In public schools, in California.
Which today now ranks #45-50 in student outcomes, yet voters decades ago automatically guaranteed 50% of all general funds go automatically to public eduction in this state.
