Donald Trump says he’s been put in the crosshairs of yet another witch hunt.
That’s according to a social media posting by the former president referring to the Dept. of Justice appointed special counsel Jack Smith. Right after Trump announced he is running for president in 2024, Biden Attorney General Merrick Garland assigned Smith to investigate Trump on a number of grounds.
On Monday, Trump posted a statement reading:
This fully weaponized monster, Jack Smith, shouldn’t be let anywhere near the political persecution of “President Donald J. Trump.” I did nothing wrong on January 6th, and nothing wrong with the Democrats’ fix on the Document Hoax, that is, unless the six previous Presidents did something wrong also. When will you invade Bill and Hillary’s home in search of the 33,000 emails she deleted AFTER receiving a subpoena from the U.S. Congress? When will you invade the other Presidents’ homes in search of documents, which are voluminous, which they took with them, but not nearly so openly and transparently as I did?
Trump then linked to the following opinion article in Town Hall that discusses Smith’s controversial and politically-driven background.
Trump may be sensitive to a special counsel after supposedly independent investigators working under Special Counsel Robert Mueller on the Trump Russia probe proved to be alarmingly politically-biased against Trump; the FBI fabricated evidence under which they got a wiretap of a Trump associate; and the FBI relied on political opposition research gathered by the Hillary Clinton campaign, and originating with an unreliable Russian source, to open the Trump Russia probe and leak false information about Trump to the media prior to the 2016 election. In the end, there was no evidence Trump had any improper relationship with Russia or its president Vladimir Putin.
After his recent appointment, Smith issued a statement that read: “I intend to conduct the assigned investigations, and any prosecutions that may result from them, independently and in the best traditions of the Department of Justice. The pace of the investigations will not pause or flag under my watch. I will exercise independent judgement and will move the investigations forward expeditiously and thoroughly to whatever outcome the facts and the law dictate.”
The idea of investigating a political opponent who has just announced a run for president is controversial and fraught with potential conflicts of interest. However, when it comes to Trump, a great deal of questionable behavior by US intel agencies and Dept. of Justice has been widely accepted and even encouraged.
Investigate the investigators, and we’ll see who the real criminals are. Bit that will NEVER happen as long as “the big guy” is in office, no matter where he thinks he is.
Up yours Jack Smith! How’s that sound?
A kewpie doll for anyone who can find a photo of Jack Smith smiling (he’s either as smug as he looks, or is trying to hide a gummy smile).
