Almost nobody is in favor of registering their gardens with the US Dept. of Agriculture (USDA).
That’s according to the latest unscientific poll of 1,295 at SharylAttkisson.com.
Ninety-nine percent (99%) of respondents said they do not think it is a good idea. Less than 1% said they favor registering their gardens.
Discussion over whether people should register their attempts to grow food with the federal government heightened after the USDA announced an “initiative” to encourage small-scale agriculture projects to “register,” collaborate with the federal government, and receive recognition.
On Sept. 9, the USDA posted the following announcement:
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is expanding its People’s Garden Initiative to include eligible gardens nationwide. School gardens, community gardens, urban farms, and small-scale agriculture projects in rural, suburban and urban areas can be recognized as a “People’s Garden” if they register on the USDA website and meet criteria including benefitting the community, working collaboratively, incorporating conservation practices and educating the public. Affiliate People’s Garden locations will be indicated on a map on the USDA website, featured in USDA communications, and provided with a People’s Garden sign.

Some context for your poll probably would have helped. What they are trying to register is not personal or family gardens. In fact, the personal/family gardens wouldn’t likely even qualify. They are instead trying to register community oriented agriculture as a resource for people who need help with having enough quality food.
Please explain how people don’t have enough food when most of what we’ve been hearing is how fat Americans are and that there’s an obesity epidemic.
If some areas don’t have access to “enough quality food” then maybe, just maybe, those people shouldn’t be torching and looting the stores that serve their communities under the guise of some kind of “protest” in response to fake news stories..
It’s sad that the only food that seems to be in short supply is food for thought.
The context was there, you just had to read it before taking the poll and yes, private gardens can be registered if they support the community… this is so communist it makes the communists blush! I grow a garden and I share my extras, but I sure as hell don’t want the government telling me what to share, who to share with and giving lazy people who choose not to grow their own my address so they can steal my work and effort. I already have enough taken by airbnb people staying in the neighborhood, who think its okay to take peoples food because it isn’t fenced in, just netted for protection from animals.

What is “community-oriented agriculture”? The agriculture that is left after the government confiscates all the real farms? Sad to say, the word “community” has become a leftist buzzword and therefore – for me – a red flag.
How can this possibly a good idea? Just the name, i.e., “People’s garden initiative” speaks volumes.. Where can the justification for this be found in the specified, ennumerated, and delegated powers to the federal government in the Constitution?
‘People’s garden?’ Like ‘People’s Army’ or ‘People’s Republic?’ Are we now communist China or North Korea?
Events indicate to me that the DNCs goals is to remake the US in the image of China.
Some years ago in.Oregon, the government wanted people to register their animals and let the government know when animals were.bought, sold, butchered for home use, etc. Thank goodness that did not fly.
