UPDATED: Chronology of President Biden & Co. classified document saga

The following is a news analysis.

Updated Fri. Feb. 10, 2023

Confused? No wonder.

The discovery of classified documents in President Biden’s possession was covered up from the public for months, at least. We’re left to take the word of the people involved, and Biden’s own representatives, as to timing and details of event with no independent way to confirm them. As of this publication we have been informed of four separate document discoveries dating back to last November.

Far less significant discoveries have merited SWAT-style raids by the FBI. But here, according to White House accounts, Biden’s own lawyers have been permitted to continue searching, even after multiple discoveries.

The Presidential Records Act requires all presidential and vice-presidential documents to be transferred to the National Archives once the official leaves office. Classified information is not permitted to be in private possession outside of strict rules and controls.

Unlike the case of former President Trump’s documents, which is also under investigation, President Biden is not claiming to have had a right to possess the classified documents. In fact, he says he does not know their contents. Trump, on the other hand, had been actively negotiating with authorities, arguing he had a right to the documents, when the FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago home on August 8, confiscated and photographed the documents, then leaked information and photos to the press. Trump has said he used his presidential authority to declassify the documents in question prior to leaving office.

Biden Classified Document Timeline

Sept. 18, 2022:

Biden grants an interview to 60 Minutes commenting on the Trump document case. In part, Biden said he thought, “‘How that could possibly happen? How one, anyone could be that irresponsible.’ And I thought, ‘What data was in there that may compromise sources and methods? By that I mean names of people who helped or’ the, et cetera. And it just, totally irresponsible.”

Nov. 2022:

In an interview with ABC News, former Vice President Mike Pence insisted he had not taken any sensitive documents from his time at the White House.

Nov. 2, 2022: Biden Discovery #1

“Roughly” 10 classified documents are reportedly found at Biden’s “Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement” in Washington DC. Biden’s lawyer claimed other Biden lawyers “were packing files housed in a locked closet to prepare to vacate office space” when the documents were discovered. They were reportedly in a folder in a box co-mingled with unclassified papers.

It was less than a week before the Congressional Midterms elections and Biden was reportedly notified, but he and the White House kept the discovery secret from the public.

Biden’s attorney says the White House counsel’s office notified the National Archives.

Thurs. Nov. 3, 2022: The National Archives reportedly take the materials and notify the Justice Dept. It’s unclear what happened to the documents at that point.

Tues. Dec. 20, 2022: Biden Discovery #2

More classified documents are reportedly discovered at a former private officer of Biden’s. This discovery is also kept under wraps.

Thurs. Jan. 12: Biden Discovery #4

Five more pages of classified documents are reportedly discovered at Biden’s Delaware home, though the discovery is not revealed to the public at this time. Biden’s lawyer says he, the lawyer, had traveled there “to facilitate providing the document the President’s personal counsel found on Wednesday to the Justice Department” and that “While I was transferring it to the [Dept. of Justice] officials who accompanied me, five additional pages with classification markings were discovered among the material with it, for a total of six pages. The DOJ officials with me immediately took possession of them.”

Also on Thurs. Jan. 12, Biden Attorney General Merrick Garland appoints the U.S. attorney in Chicago to see if an investigation should be opened into the Biden documents snafu.

Sat. Jan. 14:

The White House announces Thursday’s document discovery.

Mon. Jan. 16:

According to later reports, former Vice President Mike Pence secretly “engaged outside counsel, with experience in handling classified documents” to review records in his home and documents that could “potentially contain sensitive or classified information interspersed throughout the records” were found.

Weds. Jan. 18:

A Pence lawyer secretly notifies the National Archives that a Pence aide, reportedly Matt Morgan, searched Pence’s home a week earlier and had found a “small number” of classified documents in stored boxes.

Thurs. Jan. 19:

Biden makes a statement saying, “I think you’re going to find there’s nothing there. I have no regrets, I’m following what the lawyers have told me they want me to do. That’s exactly what we’re doing, there’s no there there.”

Fri. Jan. 20: Biden Discovery #5

The Justice Dept. reportedly finds six new classified items inside Biden’s Delaware home during a search. The event is not announced at the time.

DOJ also took for further review personally handwritten notes from the vice-presidential years.”

Tues Jan. 24:

The earlier search of Pence’s home and the classified documents found was made public.

Weds. Feb. 1:

It’s announced that the FBI is searching Biden’s Rehoboth, Delaware home reportedly finding no additional classified documents.

  1. As has already been noted, this is not an accident. Whatever entity is currently operating the USA, they have deemed Biden as Times Up. Succession is in the works. And even more Evil is planned.

  2. As long as we’re talking about stolen documents, what about the 75,000 that the Kenyan took with him when he (supposedly) left office in 2017?

    ‘Just asking for a friend…

  3. I wonder if all past Presidents since Linden Johnson and The Vietnam War Era Kept documents around and or Richard Nixon took other Documents around there House stored , then ended up in a common landfill years later when they passed away ? Maybe it’s a common practice , I wonder if Google capturing everybody’s info on devices has classified info it’s captured and collected off Peoplas Families working for Government ? =” Every thing You type ,every site your own we be watching you ??

    1. Johnson, Nixon, Bush(s), Clinton, Obama, Trump were all POTUS when documents were transferred.
We must not forget that Biden was only VP with no authority to declassify anything when those documents ‘magically’ were stored in the Penn-Biden Center, the Biden garage and some adjacent room in Biden’s residence. There is a difference!

  4. Your timeline is wrong

Garland appointed a special counsel on Thursday – not the us atty in Chicago

The us atty had been looking at case previously

  5. This is just my opinion but knowing how the leftist media shills for the leftist democrats, I suspect the narrative will be ‘Nothing to see here, move along’ as the documents had “classified markings” but were no longer classified as they were removed from the classified portion of the report.
Having had a TS/SCI clearance for nearly 30 years even that would put someone else in federal prison for ’10 years and a $10K fine’ but this is “good old Joe Biden” so he has a ‘get out of all responsiblities card’!
    Just sayin’

  6. No, No, I smell a rat! This is a “two birds with one stone” scenario. The Dems want to make sure that Biden isn’t able to run again (they want Michele or Newsome), and since the possibility of the Mar-a-Lago raid actually stopping Trump from running again is fading, something drastic had to be done. So they take out Joe by actually ruining his chances at a second run, and then, to keep it fair and equal justice for all (like the GOP keeps harping about) and all that jazz, well, they amp up the Trump prosecution. Biden’s criminality in handling TS/SCI if FAR WORSE than Trumps, even without considering that Trump had the presidential authority to de-classify practically anything.

  7. I think we will find that Nov.2 was the jumping off point – that there is a lot more earlier activity that happened, and that needs to be revealed. My bet is that this all ties back to Hunter Biden’s “laptop from hell” and we will see years of influence peddling with foreign countries by the Biden’s dating back to when Joe was a Senator. He was a de facto foreign agent

  8. Must admit this looks suspicious. As long as Biden’s been in govt he, of all people, should know he cannot just walk out with highly classified documents. The Presidential Records Act does not extend to a VP. However, Joe Biden is senile. Gone. Kaputsky. With his cognitive decline he may legitimately be able to say “I had no idea”.
