(POLL) Voters against sending US to send ground troops to defend Taiwan

Most US voters say they are willing to commit US naval and air power to defending Taiwan against action from mainland Chinese. But they draw the line at sending ground troops.

That’s according to Rasmussen Reports.

The survey finds 79% say they would support the US imposing economic sanctions on China for sending federal troops to the Chinese island of Taiwan, including 60% who say they would “strongly support” sanctions.

Twelve percent (12%) say they would oppose US sanctions if Chinese troops are sent into Taiwan.

Last month, Air Force Gen. Mike Minihan made headlines with a memo warning that he believes the US will be at war with China in 2025.

If Chinese troops were to move into Taiwan, 64% says they would support the US using its navy to defend Taiwan, including 34% who would “strongly support” it.

Twenty-three percent (23%) say they would oppose US naval defense of Taiwan. Another 13% say they are not sure.

Sixty-three percent (63%) say they would support using the US. Air Force to defend Taiwan if China were to send in troops.

  1. We need to stop this international postering. Right now the Biden administration is continuing raising the bar in Ukraine against Russia.
The CCP is watching and when it comes to Taiwan we must not get involved. We’re about to go bankrupt and should instead take care of our own.

    1. I agree with you on the Ukraine issue. That should be handled by Europe as the NATO nations in that continent have as much wealth as the USA.
I disagee with you on Taiwan as we have several strategic partners in Asia including Taiwan.
Communist China is the existential threat to the USA as the CCP/PLA has clearly stated they seek world domination. Should Taiwan fall into CCP rule, the next nation will be South Korea. Japan must become a nuclear state should that happen and the USA fail to act.
I am old enough to remember the adage “Better dead than Red”, today the mantra must be ‘Better dead than CCP Red’!

  2. I am certainly no fan of Joe Biden and I firmly believe he did NOT win the presidency under legitimate conditions but Taiwan is an ally.
The US policy of One China is a very muddled policy in that we want trade with mainland Communist controlled China but depend on microchips from the elected people of Taiwan.
We have 20,000 – 27,000 troops stationed in South Korea, another 50,000 in Japan all for the main purpose of keeping Communist China in check. Deterring North Korea is a secondary issue.
We have a much greater interest in defending Taiwan than we do Ukraine.
Should the CCP/PLA invade Taiwan we should take military action. Hopefully we will prepare by aiding Taiwan with the means to defend itself before Xi Jingpin makes a move.
