BuzzFeed news division shuttered

BuzzFeed News will no longer be operational, according to a recent email obtained by various news outlets.

BuzzFeed’s CEO Jonah Peretti said that closing the news division is part of a move to part to reduce the company’s workforce by 15% across a number of teams.

BuzzFeed was notorious for reporting propaganda and false information, including the false Trump-Russia story.

The following is an excerpt from Just The News.

“While layoffs are occurring across nearly every division, we’ve determined that the company can no longer continue to fund BuzzFeed News as a standalone organization,” wrote [an official], according to NBC News

BuzzFeed put the opposition research document, known as the Steele dossier, online in unedited form in January 2017, citing the interest in informing the public of the role it  played in the congressional and FBI investigations of the now discredited Russia-Trump 2016 presidential campaign collusion narrative, according to Politico.

Peretti said he over-invested in BuzzFeed News “because I love their work and mission so much. … This made me slow to accept that the big platforms wouldn’t provide the distribution or financial support required to support premium, free journalism purpose-built for social media.”

  1. They went out with barely a whimper. This is how much influence that they wielded except for the fact that they were egged on in the false Steele document fiasco to be used by the lame stream media just to get at Trump because he was/is such a threat to the status quo.
All their stories can be filed in the circular filing cabinet that sits in the far corner of the room..
This doesn’t say much about the integrity of the journalism schools that these people attended. They should think about getting into a different line of work.
