(GALLUP) Democrats offer Harris near-unanimous approval

The following is from Gallup News.

Americans’ views of Vice President Kamala Harris have improved markedly, with Democrats giving her nearly unanimous positive ratings.

Gallup poll finds Harris’s favorable rating has increased 13 percentage points since June, to 47%, with 93% of Democrats, 41% of independents, and 5% of Republicans saying they hold positive opinions of her.

Americans' Improved Views of Kamala Harris Owed to Democrats

The vice president’s job approval rating is also now 47%, up seven points from the previous reading in December 2023.

Gallup’s poll was conducted after Biden’s announcement that he was ending his bid for a second term and endorsing Harris to take his place, which rapidly consolidated Democratic support behind her candidacy.

Favorable Ratings of Biden and Trump Below Harris

While Biden’s job approval rating increased significantly in August, his favorable rating, at 40%, is statistically similar to the 37% June reading. That figure was his lowest point since 2008, when he was still unfamiliar to many Americans. At the same time, Trump’s favorable rating has dipped five points to 41%.

While Biden’s and Trump’s favorable ratings remain below Harris’s, 36% of independents say they have a positive opinion of Trump, compared to 30% who say they view Biden favorably.

Harris’s rise in approval and favorability is largely driven by Democrats’ overwhelming support, with little change among other groups.
