A recent Gallup poll reveals that 57% of Americans say they are very or somewhat confident that the presidential votes this year will be accurately cast and counted. However, this overall confidence hides a growing partisan divide.
The poll finds that 84% of Democrats say they trust the vote’s accuracy, compared to only 28% of Republicans, marking a record-high 56-percentage-point gap between the two parties.
Republicans’ faith in the integrity of election results has declined sharply, now standing at 28%, a 16-point drop since the 2020 election. Meanwhile, Democrats’ confidence remains high, with 84% say they have trust in the accuracy of the vote, a trend that started in 2008.
While confidence in the national voting process has fallen among Republicans, Americans are more positive about the integrity of the vote at their local polling places. Seventy-six percent (76%) say they are confident that votes will be accurately cast and counted at their own polling stations.
There is also a narrower partisan difference on this question: 90% of Democrats, 71% of independents, and 70% of Republicans say they have confidence in their local voting process.
The survey highlights Republicans’ concerns about potential voter fraud, with 74% saying ineligible people voting and illegal methods being used to cast votes are major problems. In contrast, Democrats are most worried about candidates refusing to concede, with 75% saying this is a significant concern.

Interesting (to me) question; Why don’t Democrats oppose illegal/illegitimate voting on the level that Republicans do? You’d think, self-proclaimed disciples of democracy would like to see legal voters voting just as much as Republicans/conservatives would. Or do they believe that illegal voters are a part of true democracy?
