The following is an excerpt from Children’s Health Defense.
In 2019, during a custody battle in Tennessee, a judge mandated the vaccination of David Ihben’s three unvaccinated children. The court intervened after the judge Todd Burnett discovered that none of the children had received any vaccines. Despite Ihben and his ex-wife previously agreeing not to vaccinate their children, the judge ruled that whichever parent was willing to vaccinate them immediately would gain custody. Ihben stated that the judge called it “child abuse” not to vaccinate.
Isaac, the youngest of the three children, received 18 vaccines in a single day, which quickly led to his severe illness. He developed a 106-degree fever and spent 12 days in the ICU. Shortly afterward, Isaac was diagnosed with severe regressive autism.
Isaac’s older siblings did not experience the same level of adverse effects, but Isaac’s condition deteriorated to the point that he now requires constant care, speech therapy, and is unable to perform basic tasks independently. Ihben recounted his heartbreak at watching his son’s decline, stating:
“He doesn’t talk. He wears a diaper. He eats out of a baby bottle 20-30 times a day, he has speech therapy and will require 24-hour care for the rest of his life.”
David Ihben
Despite this devastating outcome, Isaac’s mother abandoned the children, leaving Ihben to raise them alone while still being required to pay child support.
In addition to the challenges of caring for Isaac, local officials allegedly tried to intimidate Ihben out of sharing his story with the Vax-Unvax bus operated by Children’s Health Defense. “They tried to scare us out of doing the interview,” Ihben said, explaining how local authorities harassed him.

Sharyl:
I’m looking for primary sources on this, including – hopefully – a statement from Vanderbilt. Can you help?
This judge, the mother, and the doctors should all be charged with child abuse and endangerment. If this is true, that poor little boy’s life is ruined for absolutely no reason! This article made me cry for that little boy and his father who is now left to take care of him for the rest of his life. Someone who deals with vaccine injuries needs to look at this child and find a way to help him, if there is one.
This is horrific! In what world would any doctor give 18 vaccines to anyone, much less a small child, in one day?
Does it matter that 18 were given in one day or spaced out? This is the ultimate proof that vaccines can and do cause autism.
One might argue, yes, but nobody gets 18 in one day. Sure, but it’s still a defining argument against anybody claiming vaccines cannot cause autism.
The main story on this is at CHD & I commend Sharyl for covering this story.

The child’s father David Ihben, actually visits the comments there. It is a heart breaking story of a family torn apart and a child permanently damaged by an overly authoritarian judge and the medicos who carried out those orders. Even though the father has had physical custody of his children for 3 years, he is still required to pay ‘child support’ payments to the state. Which accrue in a state held fund. This entire time, he has to support and take care of his 3 children, one of them being the now non-verbal, autistic child. The entire thing is both Infuriating and evil.
There have been hundreds of thousands of horror stories since Congress passed the 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act. This one isn’t all that much worse.
The Judge in the Ihben case should be disqualified, banned from practicing as should the doctors or nurses who gave those three children the vaccines. Hoping that the Children’s Health Defense sues the state and the health professionals. I believe children should be vaccinated, but not the way they are doing it now. That is too much of whatever vaccine is going into newborns a few days after birth and then 4 to 6 weeks thereafter. A more modest schedule of one or two vaccines at a time would be more inline with practicing good medicine. Vaccines do cause Autism in susceptible children and unfortunately, we don’t know right now who is susceptible at this time.
Horrific indeed! This story needs wider distribution. Thanks Sharyl. When I was a kid we got seven vaccinations. Seven! 18 in one day in a child is absurd. And to put it into a custody battle is indefensible. Its too late for this child, but this judge should be disbarred. This is judicial activism at its absolute worst. An innocent child’s life irrevocably altered by a judge. How does this guy look himself in the mirror or sleep at night. I couldn’t.
