The following is from Gallup News.
A recent Gallup survey finds that both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have favorability ratings near the lowest levels Gallup has measured for presidential nominees in the last 68 years. Roughly half of US adults rate the two candidates positively on a 10-point scale, with Trump receiving a 50% positive rating and Harris closely matched with 48%.

The survey, conducted from October 1-12, 2024, used Gallup’s traditional “scalometer” to measure favorability, a tool employed since 1956. Trump’s current favorability rating is an improvement over his historic low of 36% in 2016, while Harris’ rating puts her on par with other poorly rated candidates, including Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Barry Goldwater in 1964, who also had sub-50% ratings.
The poll highlights growing partisan polarization, with both Trump and Harris receiving highly favorable ratings from their own parties’ supporters—68% of Republicans for Trump and 72% of Democrats for Harris. At the same time, they both receive highly unfavorable ratings from the opposition, with 80% of Democrats rating Trump very negatively and 71% of Republicans giving similarly negative ratings to Harris.
The survey of US adults shows that, historically, most presidential nominees have received positive ratings of 60% or higher. However, recent elections have seen a trend toward lower favorability for candidates, with Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012 being one of the few recent candidates to exceed this threshold.
