(GALLUP) 54% say they’ll cast ballots before Election Day

The following is from Gallup News.

A recent Gallup poll reveals that over half of US registered voters (54%) say they have already voted or plan to vote before Election Day, a decline from 64% in 2020 but still above pre-pandemic levels. This year’s survey, conducted between October 14-27, measured voter timing preferences, partisan tendencies, and enthusiasm as the 2024 election nears.

Early Voting Preferences

Twenty percent (20%) of registered voters say they have already voted, and thirty-four percent (34%) say they intend to vote before Election Day, while forty-two percent (42%) say they plan to vote on Election Day, November 5. This shift in early voting mirrors patterns seen in recent elections, with early voting interest growing as Election Day approaches.

Democrats remain more likely than Republicans to vote early. Sixty-three percent (63%) of registered voters who identify as Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents say they have already voted or will vote early, while forty-seven percent (47%) of Republicans and Republican leaners say the same. This sixteen-point difference aligns with Gallup’s 2020 findings, where seventy-four percent (74%) of Democrats and fifty-six percent (56%) of Republicans planned to vote early.

In-Person and Mail-In Voting Trends

Sixty-seven percent (67%) of voters say they plan to vote in person this year, compared to sixty percent (60%) in 2020, while fewer say they will vote by mail or absentee ballot (twenty-six percent (26%) vs. thirty-five percent (35%) in 2020).

Voter Enthusiasm

Voter enthusiasm appears strong, with Democrats showing more eagerness than Republicans. Fifty-five percent (55%) of Democrats say they have high enthusiasm for the upcoming election, compared to forty-eight percent (48%) of Republicans.

These insights reflect how voting habits continue to evolve, showing the impact of early voting trends and party enthusiasm as Election Day 2024 approaches.
