(POLL) Democrats shift against one-party control after election

The following is from Rasmussen Reports.

A new Rasmussen Reports survey reveals a shift among Democrats in their support for one-party control in Washington. The poll shows that 54% of likely voters say they are comfortable with one party controlling both the White House and Congress, but Democratic support for this idea has notably dropped since the election.

The survey found that 33% of voters say they are “very comfortable” with one-party control, while 41% say they are uncomfortable, including 23% who say they are “not at all comfortable.”

Among Republicans, 78% say they are at least somewhat comfortable with one-party rule. In contrast, only 37% of Democrats say they feel the same. This marks a sharp decline from four years ago when 53% of Democrats said they supported one-party control under Biden.

The poll also revealed that 56% of voters say they believe it is important for Congress to act as a check on the president, including 43% who say they believe it is “very important.”

The survey of 800 likely voters was conducted between November 12-14, 2024, with a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points.

  1. Congress should act as a check on the POTUS but only when Congress has the best interest of the Nation as guidance. So often, in fact MOST often, Congress places self interest above the Nation claiming it is necessary for them to get re-elected.
Unfortunately the voting public is more concerned with what their represntatives can do for them as individuals than what should be done for the nation overall. Social programs should be limited to only those that are incapable of helping themselves. Leave it up to charity based organizations to help those who find themselves in a temporary bad spot and only to help them recover.

  2. If they really used to control the president then it is good idea however in the last decades both parties abused this system and just voted NO because it wa a proposal from the other side and not even consider it if its good for America not. This is incorrect use of the power, specially under Pelosi. Thats also that a president is from different party he cant achieve anything as both sides and more Dems thinking ideologic and not what is best for the Country and ALL in DC that should be their priority first and secondly the state.
