(Watch) Update: Alzheimer’s Drugs

An update to our reporting on two recently-approved Alzheimer’s drugs: aducanumab and Lecanemab. FDA advisers and many independent watchdogs said there’s no good evidence the hugely expensive shots make a meaningful difference, and they could cause serious side effects. But the FDA approved them anyway. Recently, the FDA approved a third controversial Alzheimer’s drug, Donanemab, sold as Kisunla, given as a monthly I-V infusion.

The following is a transcript of a report from “Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson.”

The watchdog group Public Citizen says that like the 2 other controversial Alzheimer’s drugs the FDA approved in the last couple of years, Kisunladoesn’t prevent or reverse Alzheimer’s, isn’t much better than a placeboand has substantial safety risks, including bleeding in the brain and brain swelling, that can be fatal and outweigh any supposed benefits.

In a statement, Public Citizen calls FDA approval of Kisunla “very disappointing.” “The prescribing information includesthe strongest warning the FDA requires, about these serious risksDonanemab should not have been approved.”

Dr. Caleb Alexander was one of the FDA advisors who voted against approval of the first Alzheimer’s injection, aducanumab. He’s an epidemiologist, internist, and professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Alexander: The advisory committee there was near consensus among the advisory panel that there just wasn’t the evidence to warrant approval.

Sharyl:Did they really want advice from the advisors?

Caleb Alexander: Well, it’s a fair question. And in fact, three advisory committee members of the 10 or 11 or whoever many were on the committee, three resigned in protest of the FDA’s decision.

Sharyl: Aducanumab has since been pulled from the market. The FDA says Lecanemab and the newest one, Kisunla (kiss-SUN’-lah) or Donanemab are safe and effective.

  1. My sister was used for thos in type of research on Nebraska. I had quietly conserved her in Merrick County. They, former NE HHS employees/GI Ne/ Central City Asst. Living gift a OLD psychiatrist, no longer part of her care to call me non compliant because I refused to permit an extreme level of Depakote. I won the battle not the war. You might want t o do a story on rural care homes. that are traded like baseball cards. You KNOW the recipients will be those confined in these facilities. NE has the loosest Medical protection statutes which is why most clandestine research persists in this State. Her psychiatrist flaunting his calling card as an addictionist, was put in jail for sex crimes. I believe he was no longer useful, bit the offer. He belonged their sooner the horrible damage he has fone. Unfortunately BRION is still available for PB companies/Ne HHS. Iwas in CA. I shut down a care home in Folsom CA, discovered drugs dispensed by color, Charter Behavioral Health had a “good doctor” using hidden records. 2 owners dropped out, it reopened in 3 days. Inappropriately placed by the State into this hell hole…for a purpose. I have enough content on FDA misuse of Pharm going back to MK. Hastings Regionsl /NE wanted my mother’s approval to do a lobotomy on her. She almost did. My brother is a death statistic. We never knew it was impramidine. Your next book should be FOLLOW THE PATIENT. Iam willing to help kick start your Table of contents. Please consider opening the door on this human suffering. I discovered 2 years ago her grave is unmarked, laid beside her abuser. my father. My brother let the facilityHHS use him for a pat on the head, he kept the burial refund my mother paid for, and the County paid it. I am now in Topeka Kansas. My story escaping CA is equally powerful. You can bring light to the depravity. Please consider this. The most powerful validation is to be unsilenced . She was extraordinaryly compassionate woman to her peers. John 1:5. LeAnne Chism
