A new Rasmussen Reports poll finds that 67% of likely US voters say they approve of the Trump administration’s announcement requiring federal employees to return to their offices five days a week, effectively ending pandemic-era remote work. This includes 45% who say they strongly approve. Meanwhile, 27% say they disapprove of the order, including 13% who strongly disapprove.
The administration is also offering buyouts, providing about eight months’ pay for federal employees who voluntarily leave their jobs. 49% say they approve of the buyout plan, including 25% who say they strongly approve, while 44% say they disapprove.
Support for Trump’s back-to-work order is strong across political lines, with 86% of Republicans, 52% of Democrats, and 62% of unaffiliated voters saying they approve. Government employees themselves are more likely than private-sector workers to strongly approve of the return-to-office order, at 56% compared to 37%.
The survey of 1,325 likely voters was conducted from January 29-30 and February 2, 2025, with a margin of sampling error of ±3 percentage points.
