(POLL) Majority want limits on birthright citizenship

The following is from Rasmussen Reports.

A new Rasmussen Reports poll finds that 54% of likely US voters say they support limiting automatic birthright citizenship to cases where at least one parent is a US citizen or legal permanent resident, including 32% who say they strongly support such a limit. Meanwhile, 35% say they oppose such a restriction, including 22% who strongly oppose it, while 10% say they are undecided.

President Donald Trump issued an executive order on his first day in office to end birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants. However, a federal judge quickly blocked the order, ruling it “clearly unconstitutional.”

Support varies based on how the question is asked. When asked about changing the current policy of granting citizenship to children of illegal immigrants released into the US between 2021 and 2025, voters are nearly split, with 44% saying they support such a change and 43% saying they oppose it, while 13% say they are unsure.

A separate question about ending birthright citizenship for children born to tourists and foreign visitors finds 51% say they support the change, including 29% who say they strongly support it. Meanwhile, 37% say they oppose it, including 26% who say they strongly oppose it, and 12% say they are not sure.

Sixty-one percent of Republicans, 56% of Democrats, and 49% of unaffiliated voters say they support limiting birthright citizenship to cases where at least one parent is a US citizen or legal resident. Fifty-seven percent of Republicans, 49% of Democrats, and 46% of unaffiliated voters say they support ending birthright citizenship for children of tourists and foreign visitors. Black voters (54%), Hispanics (53%), and other minority groups (58%) are more likely than white voters (49%) to do yousay they support this change.

The survey of 1,196 likely US voters was conducted on February 6 and 9-10, 2025, with a margin of error of ±3 percentage points.

  1. Sum jujez need 2 go bak 2 law skool 2 lern just wut th 14th amenmnt wuz all about. Eithr that or they need 2 b removed frum th bench.

  2. The 14th Amendment was passed to allow former slaves to be designated as US citizens after the Civil War ended slavery.
Birthright citizenship should only apply to children born of US citzens and LEGAL immigrants who have made the choice to reside in the USA on a permanent basis.
‘Birth tourism’ has become popular for other nations, mainly Asian, where a pregnant woman travels to the US just in time to deliver the child on US soil and stake the claim of US citizenship for that child, possibly have what has become known as an anchor baby. This was never envisioned under the 14th Amendment and must stop. Children born abroad to US citizens do not automatically become citizens of those foreign countries.

Diplomats stationed here in the US who have children born in the US do not get to have those children designated as US citizens because they are not under the juristiction of the US government.
Under Birth toursim, when the mother returns to her native country after delivering a child, the mother and child are no longer under US jurisdiction. Once an illegal is deported, along with any children they have either brought into the US illegally or born on US soil, they are no longer under US jurisdiction. They shoud never have been granted US citizenship or be declared DACA/Dreamers, aka anchor babies!

  3. The liberals can never answer the question, how many should we allow before the system collapses? 7billion, 6 billion, 5 billion?
