The following is from Gallup News.
A new Gallup poll finds that 46% of Americans say they sympathize with Israelis in the Middle East conflict, the lowest level recorded in 25 years of Gallup’s annual tracking. Support for Palestinians has risen to 33%, up six percentage points from last year and the highest level recorded. The previous low point for US sympathy toward Israel was 51%, recorded last year and in 2001.
The poll, conducted Feb. 3-16, 2025, took place amid a temporary ceasefire and hostage exchange between Israel and Hamas. The survey also followed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the White House on Feb. 4, during which President Trump expressed his intent for the US to own and redevelop the Gaza Strip. The poll finds that 40% of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the Israel-Palestinian situation, slightly trailing his overall 45% job approval rating.

Partisan divides remain strong. Republicans overwhelmingly sympathize with Israelis (75%) over Palestinians (10%), while Democrats favor Palestinians over Israelis (59% vs. 21%). Among independents, 39% sympathize with Israelis, while 35% favor Palestinians.
Support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state remains above 50%, continuing a trend observed since 2020. The poll finds 55% of Americans favor creating a Palestinian state, while 31% oppose it. Democrats are the strongest supporters of a two-state solution (72%), while Republicans are more divided (37% support, 50% oppose). Among independents, 52% support an independent Palestinian state.
Meanwhile, American views on US involvement in the conflict have also shifted. 49% of voters now say the U.S. should remain neutral, an increase from previous years. 34% say the US should favor Israel, while 14% believe the US should support the Palestinians.
