A new Rasmussen Reports survey shows voters are giving President Donald Trump high marks for his handling of the economy early in his second term.

Forty-eight percent (48%) of likely US voters say they rate Trump’s handling of economic issues as “good” or “excellent.” Forty percent (40%) give him a “poor” rating. By comparison, President Joe Biden never reached above 42% on economic approval during his term. In June 2022, 57% rated Biden “poor” on the economy, and by December 2023, his numbers had fallen to a 37% good/excellent rating versus 49% poor.

When voters were asked to directly compare the two, 47% say Trump’s economic policy is better than Biden’s, while 40% say it is worse. Nine percent (9%) say there is not much difference.

The issue divides sharply along party lines. Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Republicans say Trump’s economic policy is better, while 69% of Democrats say it is worse. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 49% say Trump’s policy is better, compared to 34% who say it is worse.

Seventy-nine percent (79%) of Republicans rate Trump’s handling of the economy as good or excellent. Only 21% of Democrats agree, while 67% of Democrats rate him poor. Among unaffiliated voters, 46% give Trump a good or excellent rating on the economy, with 40% rating him poor.

Among those who voted for Trump in last year’s election, 85% rate him good or excellent on the economy. Meanwhile, 80% of Kamala Harris voters rate Trump’s handling of the economy as poor.

The survey of 1,106 likely US voters was conducted March 17-19, 2025. The margin of sampling error is ±3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
