POLL: More than half say their kids don’t work as hard as they did

More than half of people who responded say their kids don’t work as hard as they did.

That’s according to an unscientific Twitter poll of 1,400 people.

We asked “For people with kids over age 15: My children work _____ I did/do.”

54.5% say their kids work “less hard.”

31% say their kids work the same as they did.

And 14.5% say their children work harder.

  1. The reason for people thinking their kids don’t work as hard, is their kids don’t have to. If they don’t like a job, they change jobs. The kids realize job satisfaction is also important. The tacit understanding they are replaceable is huge.

  2. I remember my father saying the same thing. All fathers want their kids to have a better life than they did, and they work hard to provide that. I also remember my mother (of four sons) telling me her mother (of three sons) told her, ‘fathers grow jealous of their sons.’ Honestly, I can’t imagine having an easier road than I did. Good schools. Good neighborhood. I’m old now, but I worked hard… mostly in agriculture… paid part of my high school tuition, paid all of my college tuition. The world now is vastly different than the one I grew up in. Not an excuse, just reality. Each generation faces their own hardship. “Hard times create strong men. Strong me create good times. Good time create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.” The hard times headed our way are decades in the making, That growing realization keeps me awake at night.
