(STUDY) Cellphone radiation causes cancer in animals, WHO finds

The following information is from Children’s Health Defense.

A World Health Organization–backed review has found strong evidence that cellphone radiation causes cancer in animals, renewing debate over outdated safety standards and long-standing regulatory inaction.

Published April 25 in Environmental International, the WHO-commissioned review found “high certainty” evidence linking cellphone radiation to malignant brain and heart tumors also seen in human studies.

“The evidence is now clear— cell phone radiation can cause cancer in animals in concordance with the tumor types identified in human studies of mobile phone users. As animal studies are essential for predicting cancer risk in humans, governments should develop science-based safety standards to protect human health.”
Ron Melnick, Ph.D., former senior toxicologist, National Toxicology Program

Following the publication, the International Commission on the Biological Effects of Electromagnetic Fields (ICBE-EMF) called for immediate policy action. The group urged governments to revise RF radiation exposure limits, citing the “high level of certainty” and rising global wireless use.

The review also cited findings from the US National Toxicology Program’s $30 million study, which reported “clear evidence” of malignant heart tumors in male rats and “some evidence” of brain tumors and adrenal gland tumors.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has refused to release nearly 2,500 pages of records about the NTP’s decision to halt its wireless radiation research. The NTP — backed by the NIH, CDC, and FDA — conducted one of the studies cited in the WHO review.

Some critics noted the WHO’s history of minimizing risks from wireless radiation. Despite that, even organizations like the Swedish Radiation Protection Foundation and CHD said this review marks a rare acknowledgment of the risks.

“When even the WHO panel designed to whitewash the issue says there is a problem, you know we’re in trouble.

It’s ridiculous that, despite these clear health risks, residents cannot choose where cell towers are placed based on concerns that the radiation from a cell tower near their kids’ school might impact their kids’ health.

That’s why our 704 No More initiative is so important.”
— Miriam Eckenfels, Director, (CHD) Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) & Wireless Program

Lennart Hardell, M.D., Ph.D., with ICBE-EMF, said the findings meet the scientific criteria for reclassifying radiofrequency-electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) as a Group 1 carcinogen — the same category as tobacco and asbestos. RF-EMF is currently labeled by WHO as a Group 2B “possible” carcinogen.

“These results fulfill the criteria for a human carcinogen.”
— Dr. Lennart Hardell, ICBE-EMF

Mona Nilsson, director of the  Swedish Radiation Protection Foundation, agreed. She estimated there are now “several hundred” studies identifying mechanisms by which wireless radiation increases cancer risk — including DNA damage and oxidative stress — further supporting a reclassification to Group 1.

ICBE-EMF and other experts say the radiation exposure limits set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) — unchanged for nearly 30 years — are outdated and fail to protect public health. In 2021, a federal court ordered the FCC to explain how its existing limits protect against harm, especially for children and the environment — but the agency has yet to comply.

  1. The part that really pisses me off about this? OUR TAXES PAID FOR THIS STUDY! RELEASE THE STUDY!

And now companies are selling “wireless trackers” to put on your pets. And those cell phones you and your children are toting all over, including school? All those 5G towers showing up next to schools, playgrounds, etc?
