President Donald Trump earned a 51% monthly job approval rating in May, according to Rasmussen Reports. That’s up two points from April. Forty-eight percent (48%) say they disapproved, down one point.
Thirty-three percent (33%) say they strongly approved of Trump’s performance, while 18% say they somewhat approved. Forty percent (40%) say they strongly disapproved, and 8% say they somewhat disapproved.
Eighty-three percent (83%) of Republicans say they approved of Trump’s performance. Twenty percent (20%) of Democrats say they agreed. Forty-seven percent (47%) of unaffiliated voters say they approved. Seventy-nine percent (79%) of Democrats say they disapproved, including 66% who say they strongly disapproved.
Trump’s first-term approval ranged from a high of 51% in February 2017 to a low of 42% in August 2017. In December 2020, the last full month of his first term, he earned a 47% monthly approval.
President Joe Biden’s approval reached 52% in May 2021. It fell after the Afghanistan withdrawal in August 2021. His approval stayed in the low 40s through early 2022, rose to 48% in 2023, and ended at 45% in December 2024.
