It’s currently trying to seize property and homes outside of Nashville for a methane gas plant. He’s even releasing a new song about it. Rich asks— Who’s getting rich off this ‘scheme’? And can anyone stop what seems like an immovable, powerful force?

Unfortunately, “planners” are not always looking for the most efficient or least harmful options. All over the country, there are property control fights as our energy needs for data centers, cities, etc. are increasing without adequate infrastructure to feed them. There is genuine need for new transmission lines as well as energy projects, and the time from planning to implementation crosses different presidential administrations with different priorities (e.g. “green” energy). Often, the individual people who may be directly affected by plans are the last to know about them. Not that the powers-that-be value much the rights of these individuals, who are considered to be worth sacrificing for “the greater good” (progress). While various “planning” entities may have “public input” sessions, the decisions have already been made and the public input sessions are just window dressing to make it look like somebody cares after the plans have already been made and it is too late to keep the train from coming into the station.

This is not an easy fix. I respect John Rich for many reasons, however he is leaving out some very important facts.
TVA gets not a single penny from the federal government, all the money it gets is from power generation, just like Duke power as he talked about.
The CEO making $10.5 million…what do you propose he make? When you look at the power company that is ranked 1 smaller than TVA, Exelon, the CEOs total compensation is $14.66 million, and the one above it, American Electric Power, $13.26 million.
One solution I’ve heard is sell it off. But those ramifications are worse in my opinion. It will be sold to an organization that has stock holders and they require stock prices to go up, and dividends be paid…which will more than likely raise costs.
This is not an easy solution however we need to talk about it. What do you propose?
