US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told the Trump administration Cabinet that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will soon announce findings from an ongoing study on the causes of autism.

Kennedy noted that in 1978, autism affected fewer than 1 in every 10,000 children. Today, that number is about 1 in 31.
President Donald Trump responded that “there has to be something artificially causing this, meaning a drug or something.” He added, “If you can get to the roots of it, we’ll be able to do something. I look forward to that press conference. That’s going to be a great thing.”
Back in March, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed it was launching a study into the possible connection between vaccines and autism.
During an April Cabinet meeting, Kennedy announced the government had begun a “massive testing and research effort” to determine what’s behind the autism epidemic. He said the project involved hundreds of scientists worldwide and would be completed by September.
Once environmental causes are pinpointed, Kennedy said, “We’ll be able to eliminate those exposures.”
The study, coordinated through the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is not limited to vaccines. It includes a broad investigation into environmental factors like water and air contaminants, the food system, and vaccines.
Kennedy’s announcement came days before the CDC published new data showing that 1 in 31 children had autism in 2022 — a rise from 1 in 36 in 2020, and just 1 in 1,000 in the 1990s.
Mainstream media coverage emphasized Kennedy’s past criticism of vaccines and claimed the theory linking vaccines to autism had been “discredited.” But federal agencies are now taking a closer look.
Later in April, NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya said the autism study would use records from both federal and private sources. These include data from pharmacy chains, lab tests, genomics information from the Department of Veterans Affairs and Indian Health Service, private insurance records, fitness trackers, and smartwatches.
Kennedy had previously committed that the research would investigate all potential environmental factors, and not avoid politically inconvenient findings.

Looking back at my own life, I probably would have been diagnosed as “on the spectrum” . But I was born in the early 1940’s when there were only kids and “retarded kid”. I was bright so I was not one of them. But I was pretty timid and anti-social with a huge separation anxiety affliction .
Terribly shy, non-communicative, easily frightened, inability to concentrate and carried a lot of unspoken internal stress. Yet some teachers pulled me out of my shell, I gradually started taking baby steps on my own, did a lot of navel gazing, retreats and self-inflicted stress testing in solo world travel and even mastering Toastmasters for my fear of public speaking. Panic attacks defined my adult world but I worked past them and a short bout of the old school anti-depressants unlocked the constant defeatist self-talk rattling in my brain.
So it more autism real, or just re-defined and perpetuates Big Pharm hunger for more pill takers. I grew up before most of the “vaccines” and got most of the childhood disease naturally, so that was not a factor in my own “on the autism spectrum” childhood and early adult hood. It took until midlife to be able t look back on all of this, and find myself thrilled that I pushed my self so far on my own to collect new experiences to move past whatever was that “dark dog” (ala Winston Churchill) that defined so much of my own life.
