The following is from Just The News.
The CDC’s vaccine advisory panel has unanimously voted to end its universal recommendation for Covid-19 shots, marking a notable change in federal vaccination policy.
Under the new guidance, Covid-19 vaccination will no longer be recommended for all Americans. Instead, the CDC will advise the updated Covid shot based on individual age and risk factors. The change comes as new Covid vaccines are expected to be released this fall.
The CDC had previously recommended the vaccine for all individuals, regardless of age or health condition.
The vote occurred on the second day of the panel’s vaccine meeting, where they are also expected to weigh in on recommendations for the measles vaccine and hepatitis. The panel has already voted on the measles shot.
The panel also voted against requiring a prescription for the Covid-19 vaccine in a 6-6 split, per CBS News.
A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services told the Wall Street Journal that federal insurance programs and plans under the Affordable Care Act are still required to cover the shots.
