An immigration judge in Louisiana has ordered the deportation of Mahmoud Khalil, a former Columbia University student, to either Algeria or Syria.
The decision came after Judge Jamee Comans denied Khalil’s request for a waiver to remain in the US. According to court documents cited by NBC News, the judge found Khalil had omitted key information on his green card application, amounting to a willful misrepresentation to evade immigration rules.
Khalil was arrested in March by federal immigration agents after participating in 2024 pro-Palestinian protests on the Columbia campus. At the time, President Trump posted on Truth Social that his administration would not tolerate “pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic, anti-American” activities at US universities. He also labeled Khalil “pro-Hamas” and pledged to deport such “terrorist sympathizers.”
Although Khalil was released from detention in June, the court had already issued a written decision in June denying his asylum request and ordering removal. Comans said the misrepresentation in Khalil’s residency application was made “for the sole purpose of circumventing the immigration process.”
Khalil’s attorneys have 30 days to appeal the decision to the Board of Immigration Appeals.
In a statement to NBC News, Khalil accused the Trump administration of retaliating against him for exercising free speech and called the immigration court a “kangaroo” court.

Kahlil’s baseless protestations of retaliation by the Trump administration are laughable considering he is a Muslim. Sharia Law does not allow free speech. It does celebrate taqiyya, kitman, etc. and all forms of lying to infidels as a spiritual activity in service of jihad. Deportation can’t happen quickly enough.
